At Meow, we provide startups with business accounts, corporate cards, and the clean financial reporting they need to operate and raise capital. Early-stage companies often don’t need a full-time accountant, but they do need reliable books and investor-ready numbers. We bundle bookkeeping, tax, and reporting into a simple finance-in-a-box solution so founders can focus on building.

We’re hiring an Accounting Lead who wants real ownership in a fast-moving startup environment. You’ll manage startup clients, ensuring their month-end close is accurate, on time, and scalable. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on autonomy, systems thinking, and direct collaboration with founders.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage client relationships

  • Owning the creation, review, and issuance of flawless and timely monthly financials for 20-40 clients

  • Managing and training preparer team for bullet-proof financials and strong client margins

  • Communicating with clients via Slack and Email: answering questions, obtaining information for closes, etc

  • Cleaning and setting up new sets of books for newly signed clients

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of accounting experience

  • Strong understanding of month-end close and financial reporting

  • Experience reviewing the work of others (bookkeepers or junior accountants)

  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple clients simultaneously

  • Clear communicator, comfortable working directly with founders

This is a high-autonomy role where you’ll truly own your portfolio and have the autonomy to improve how work gets done. You’ll work directly with innovative, early-stage startups, gaining rare exposure to how companies operate while they’re scaling. Because of the responsibility and client volume, you’ll develop faster than in a traditional accounting role, building skills in prioritization, systems design, and stakeholder management in a fast-moving environment.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
