Position Purpose & Objective / Focus
This role is responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, survey information and various other tasks as directed by Manager
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Monitor operating expenses, accrued and prepaid expenses to ensure accuracy and appropriate account recognition in accordance with SAP and GAAP guidance
Review bi-weekly payroll accounting ensuring the payroll and ledger modules are in agreement and collaborate with HR to resolve any differences
Support the month-end close by preparing journal entries and supporting worksheets including, but not limited to, the following transactions:
Prepaid and Accrued Expenses
Payroll taxes
Monthly supplier contracts
Validation of benefits and rent allocations and intercompany management fees
Deferred Compensation Plan investment activity
Perform analysis and reconciliation of assigned ledger accounts, ensuring all balances are supported with comprehensive documentation; proactively investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
Prepare exhibits and notes for quarterly and annual statutory NAIC filings
Respond timely to auditor requests as part of the audited financial statements process for both STAT and GAAP
Lead and coordinate cross-functional collaboration with internal teams to ensure timely and accurate completion of annual industry surveys
Assist with the accumulation of expense data necessary to prepare expense forecasts and budgets
Document policies and procedures that contribute towards efforts of strengthening the internal control environment
Special projects as assigned
Education, Requirements & Competencies
Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Accounting or Finance from a four-year college or university and 2-4 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Insurance industry experience a plus.
Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy and quality in both preparing and reviewing work
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines
Proactive and resourceful with the ability to work in a fast paced, forward moving environment
Positive and professional demeanor with proven ability to work with all levels of stakeholders
Flexibility and the ability to take on additional responsibilities when required
Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required, especially Excel
Experience with accounting information systems, Workday and Blackline a plus
Base salary range is $71,555 - $84,180. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors that are unique to each candidate including location, skill set, experience, qualifications and education.
