Position Summary

The Accountant II, Financial Reporting role leads the corporate financial close process for Apogee Enterprises, Inc. As part of a larger public company, you will have career opportunities and a chance to collaborate with colleagues both locally and across all of Apogee.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting and reporting:

  • Analyze and monitor corporate accounts and prepare monthly journal entries and reconciliations for a variety of areas such as equity, healthcare, payroll and benefits, treasury-related activities (cash, investments, debt, etc.) and all corporate-related accruals.
  • Review and eliminate intercompany accounts monthly and perform Corporate consolidations, including resolving differences and communicating regularly with our business units.
  • Assist with communication and training to support a smooth close and reporting process to facilitate integration as new entities are acquired.
  • Support key aspects of internal and external reporting, including SEC reporting, as well as contribute to corporate governance reporting, technical accounting research, analysis, and special projects.
  • Assist with and play a key role in the preparation of all SEC filings, including Form 10-Ks, 10-Qs, and 8-Ks.
  • Prepare the financial statements and footnote support disclosures, while maintaining complete tie-out documentation under the Company's SOX controls.
  • Manage overall Corporate processes for financial close, including compliance with internal controls and maintaining a strong data management system.
  • Perform certain annual procedures including closing and allocating retained earnings, document retention, and coordinating various items through our business units.
  • Design, implement, and improve standardized processes across multiple locations and teams.
  • Responsibilities also include required monthly/quarterly and annual governmental census/survey reporting, including coordination with manufacturing plants in order to meet required deadlines.
  • Support SOX compliance efforts in area(s) of responsibility.
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits.

Systems support:

  • Leverage SAP-BPC to assist with intercompany reconciliations, running consolidations, inputting foreign currency exchange rates, reviewing corporate financials, building processes, providing training, and identifying and implementing process improvements.

Personal Attributes:

  • As an Accountant II, Financial Reporting of a publicly traded company, you have a strong understanding of US GAAP and Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) and can advise colleagues on requirements and objectives.
  • You are well organized and can support multiple initiatives and workstreams. You have an ability to prioritize and act independently with minimal supervision.
  • You understand the needs of stakeholders and the Company’s policies. You are good at collaborating with and influencing business process owners to ensure that the Company’s end-to-end processes and controls are working as intended.
  • You know how to define the people, process, and technology needs across multiple business locations to design (and re-design) and implement standardized processes, and help develop the guidance, tools, and methodologies needed to execute them.
  • You find ways to continuously improve our processes that enable timely and accurate financial reporting.

Education and Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • Minimum of 3+ years of relevant industry and financial reporting experience. Big 4 public accounting experience is preferred.
  • CPA or similar designation preferred.
  • Strong accounting background with an understanding of U.S. GAAP, SEC rules and regulations, and SOX 404, as well as experience with technical research
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft applications
  • Experience with financial systems, including implementing/adapting to new systems and technology
  • Position also requires strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong ability to solve problems, think strategically, and add value through process improvement
  • Results-oriented and able to handle multiple projects and priorities with a high level of accuracy
  • Be a motivated learner that drives best in class processes and outcomes

In-Office and Travel Requirements

  • In-office expectation is to be physically on site at the Bloomington, MN HQ building three days per week, preferably Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
  • Travel anticipated approximately ~5%. The ability to travel for collaboration, or participation in process-improvement and Company-wide events may be required but will be infrequent.

Pay Range

  • $68,000-$90,000
