Vertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking a dynamic leader as the Director of Data and Analytics Capabilities to join our U.S. Market Access (USMA) organization leading transformative innovation within the Data & Analytics (D&A) Center of Excellence (COE). This is an individual contributor role that will over time lead a team of data analysts and scientists, offering a unique opportunity to shape and lead the future of AI-powered decision-making across Market Access functions while supporting one of the most innovative pipelines in the pharmaceutical industry. We are looking for a proven leader with a strong track record of designing and executing transformative AI/ML strategies—including emerging areas such as Generative AI and Agentic AI frameworks.  This individual will bring deep domain expertise across at least two core pillars of U.S. Market Access, such as Pricing & Contracting, Trade & Distribution, Gross-to-Net Management, Chargebacks, Rebates & Discounts, and Market Access Strategy. As a senior leader within the D&A COE, the Director will work cross-functionally with senior executives across USMA, Commercial, and Enterprise functions to align data-driven insights with strategic business priorities.  The ideal candidate will possess exceptional storytelling and executive communication skills, with a strong ability to drive organizational buy-in for data and analytics initiatives, influence stakeholders, and translate complex data into actionable, value-driven narratives. This role is not only about analytics—it’s about leading change. The Director will elevate the impact of data science and AI by fostering innovation, championing data-centric thinking, and raising the analytical capabilities across key Market Access domains, from pipeline planning to in-market optimization.     This is an individual contributor position and reports directly to the Senior Director, US Market Access Data & Analytics COE.
     

  • Responsible for developing and executing a data & analytics capabilities that enables scalable insights across in line brands, pipeline assets aligning with US Market Access business priorities to drive business results and transform patient outcomes.
  • Manage direct reports that have Data Enablement, Data Governance and Advanced Analytics responsibilities.
  • Oversee the Data Enablement, to lead the establishment a common data foundation of analytics ready data products, ensuring seamless data and analytics capability integration across multiple data domains including payer accounts and field operations, pricing, chargebacks and reimbursements, trade and distribution and 3rd party data acquisition and vendor management.
  • Oversee the Data Governance, to lead the implementation of a data governance framework, driving data discipline, integrity, security, and compliance to strengthen the baseline for D&A innovation
  • Take charge of the Advanced Analytics capabilities, building a strong team over time, to enable real-time insights through AI-driven models, self-service analytics, and predictive intelligence to generate pipeline value narratives for market shaping, strengthen coverage and utilization via access expansion and barrier reduction, and drive launch success.
  • Elevate analytics with Advanced ML, implementing multi-level analytical models to accurately attribute 340B vs. non-340B dispenses, stop 340B revenue leakage, using isolation forests for anomaly detection.
  • Drive new KPIs and continuous performance monitoring in post-deal analytics, identifying opportunities for pull-through effectiveness and provide inputs to inform pre-deal feasibility assessment.
  • Foster a data-driven culture by leading enterprise-wide data literacy and training initiatives, empowering Payer Field teams, Trade & Distribution, Pricing & Contracting teams to leverage AI/ML-powered insights.
  • Lead change management efforts to embed Gen AI-enhanced data & analytics capabilities into strategic decision-making, ensuring agility and scalability including intelligent knowledge hub with conversational agent interfaces.
  • Partner with Digital Technology & Engineering (DTE), GIACO (Global Insights Analytics & Commercial Operations), HEOR, DSS (Data Strategy & Solutions) to create a seamless AI-powered data ecosystem.
  • Monitor emerging technologies, trends, and best practices, ensuring continuous innovation in ML, Generative AI, and analytics-driven decision-making.
  • Partner with DTE (Digital Technology & Engineering), GIACO (Global Insights Analytics and Commercial Operations) members to describe the current state of the business and identify the factors influencing them (the “Why” behind the “What”).  
  • Serve as an advocate and develop strong partnerships in integrating market access insights across the Vertex enterprise.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline required (e.g., Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Finance) required.
  • 10+ years of experience in the biotech/pharmaceuticals industries in Managed Markets or in biopharma consulting (analytics, management, or strategic) post-MBA/PhD, with meaningful biotech/pharmaceuticals and quantitative decision support experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in developing insights that inform value, access, reimbursement, and contracting strategies.
  • Proficiency in D&A with deep expertise in evolving U.S. Market Access strategies, payer account management, channel dynamics, payer/distribution channels (commercial, government, SP, GPOs, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience working with syndicated Market Access databases (IQVIA, MMIT etc.) and shipment data (852, 867, Integrichain, etc.).
  • Strong analytical capabilities with expertise in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, SAS, Alteryx, PowerBI), with a working knowledge of analytical tools/software such as R, Python and data warehouse platforms (Snowflake).
  • Ability to network with internal and external stakeholders capable of forming strong, productive partnerships.
  • Strategic thinker who can see operational trends, identify necessary activities, and summarize their impact to the bigger strategic picture.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong presentation skills to C-suite management and external stakeholders.
  • Flexible, adaptable, diplomatic, and able to effectively deal with ambiguity.
  • Ability to partner and communicate with senior leadership to support financial forecasting and analytics, and/or commercial launch planning.
  • Strong story telling skills with the ability to distill complex information synthesized into concise, impactful messages.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD or MBA/ MPH in combination with a Master’s in a quantitative discipline.
  • Good understanding of state/federal policies, government programs impacting market access, and statutory government pricing methodologies.
  • 8-10 years of pharmaceutical manufacturer market access experience and subject matter expertise with Health Plans, PBMs, Hospital Systems, Specialty Pharmacies and Healthcare Policy stakeholders.
  • Diverse US product launch experience across different therapeutic areas strongly preferred.

Pay Range:

$208,000 - $312,000

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
