Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of the University PreMed and PreHealth Program, the PreHealth Advisor provides resources and advising services to Northeastern students and alumni regarding preparation for terminal degree health professional schools (allopathic and osteopathic medicine, dental medicine, optometric medicine, podiatric medicine, physician assistant and veterinary medicine), and facilitates the application process. Student advising services include goal-setting, academic planning, identifying relevant experiential opportunities in alignment with pre-professional competencies desired by health professional programs.

PreHealth Advisors work closely with University collaborators in academic and student support services to develop and assess support programs to enhance PMPH students’ academic and experiential preparation for their intended health profession. The PreHealth Advisor additionally supports the Program’s education and outreach efforts,  programmatic initiatives, and assists with marketing and communications.

Qualifications

Master's degree in the sciences, health, education, counseling, or similar fields required. Previous experience in higher education administration, student services, and/or student advising preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to relate empathetically and realistically to students, parents, and alumni. Strong time management and prioritization skills. Effective problem-solving and strong analytical skills with proven ability to strategize, prioritize, and multi-task to meet goals and deadlines. Effective organizational, project management, administrative, and computer skills.  

Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office software required. Familiarity with Salesforce and student record systems (e.g. Banner) preferred.  

Job Responsibilities:
Advising: Handle a high volume of student communication and be able to provide direction and answers, as necessary; Is an individual advisor to a caseload of ~ 500 students and alumni serving as a knowledgeable resource of information about preparing for future careers in medicine; Maintain on-going assessment of  students to ensure pathway progression and readiness to apply; Prepares advisees on application requirements and provides guidance throughout the application process. (80%)
Education/Outreach: Assists with Application Workshops, PreMed and PreHealth Elective Courses, Admissions Visits, special events, and campus partner events throughout the year. Maintains regular contact with advisees, sharing news, opportunities, and checking in regarding their pathway progress. (10%)
Program Management: Supports the Program’s Application Readiness Program and letter process through individualized application support (application, personal statement, school list review, etc.), Self-Assessment Review, and playing a vital role in letter processes including letter verification, Letter Packet compilation, and Letter Packet uploads. Participates in team-building activities, collaborative projects, and innovative program developments. (10%)

Expected Hiring Range:

$52,821.00 - $74,607.75

With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role. Salary ranges are reviewed regularly and are subject to change.
