Experienced leader in venture capital investing and venture creation: Founded in 2002, 5AM Ventures is an early-stage biotech venture firm leveraging both venture creation (i.e., building biotech companies from scratch) and venture capital to support the development of innovative new therapies. 5AM leads syndicated Seed and Series A investments in early-stage therapeutics companies, and our 4:59 Initiative founds new biotech companies around scientific breakthroughs. 5AM Ventures has offices in San Francisco, CA and Boston, MA, and approximately $1.1B in regulatory assets under management.
Bringing new medicines to patients is our North Star: 5AM Ventures partners with early-stage biotech companies pursuing novel therapies, several of which have advanced toward regulatory milestones and later-stage development.. We build companies with the objective of transforming patients’ lives.
Hands-on approach: Beyond leading investments and contributing as board members of certain of our portfolio companies, our team is directly involved in strategy, management recruiting, business development, fundraising, and/or other operating roles in our companies.
5AM Fellowship Opportunity: The 5AM Ventures Fellowship provides an exclusive opportunity to gain experience in both venture creation and venture capital. We commit to supporting the careers of our fellows, and past fellows have successfully transitioned to full-time positions in venture capital and biotech, business development, and healthcare consulting.
We are seeking an AI/ML Fellow who can assist the 4:59 and 5AM teams with
- Evaluation of emerging and existing artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) approaches for drug and clinical development, and identification of opportunities for AI/ML biotech venture investment or company creation
- Conducting scientific and technical diligence on new investment opportunities (e.g. research, identifying and speaking with Key Opinion Leaders), with a focus on AI-enabled life sciences or healthcare companies
- Advising on computational projects and AI tool implementation within 5AM portfolio companies
- Building a network of academic and industry leaders at the intersection of life sciences and computational approaches
- Time commitment will be 20+ hours/week, and a stipend will be provided
Who Can Apply:
- We are seeking Fellows who can work at our Boston office August-December 2025. Hours spent in-office will be flexible.
- Individuals with strong computer science backgrounds who have hands-on experience with life sciences or healthcare AI/ML applications, or candidates with life sciences backgrounds with robust experience using ML methods
- Currently enrolled in graduate or post-graduate training (e.g. PhD, Master's, MD, MBA programs, postdoctoral fellows)
The application on the next page includes a one-page cover letter, a resume and a short answer question.
Note that the "Links" section of the application is entirely optional.
