What You’ll Do:
The DevOps Engineer will perform various development activities for DevOps practices, including continuous integration, continuous delivery, continuous testing, and continuous monitoring.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Infrastructure Automation: Design, implement, and manage automated systems for provisioning, configuration management, and scaling of infrastructure. Utilize Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
- Continuous Integration and Deployment (CI/CD): Build, maintain, and improve automated CI/CD pipelines to streamline the development, testing, and deployment processes. Ensure high-quality, error-free code releases and rapid delivery cycles.
- Cloud Infrastructure Management: Manage cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc.) for local government applications. Deploy and maintain virtual machines, databases, and storage systems. Ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and scalability of systems.
- Monitoring and Logging: Implement comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to ensure the health, performance, and security of the application. Use tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), or AWS CloudWatch.
- Security and Compliance: Work with security teams to ensure that the infrastructure and application comply with local government regulations, including data protection and privacy laws. Implement security best practices, such as data encryption, secure access management, and regular vulnerability scans.
- Collaboration with Development Teams: Work closely with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and provide support for code deployment, environment setup, and debugging.
- Incident Management: Respond to and troubleshoot production issues, outages, or performance degradation, using a combination of monitoring tools and hands-on problem-solving skills. Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventative measures.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed documentation for DevOps processes, deployment workflows, and infrastructure configurations. Provide regular reports to stakeholders on infrastructure health, deployment activities, and system performance.
- Optimization and Cost Management: Identify areas of infrastructure or pipeline inefficiencies and implement improvements. Monitor cloud resource usage to optimize costs without sacrificing performance or availability.
- Disaster Recovery and Backup: Implement and manage disaster recovery plans, ensuring that systems are regularly backed up and can be restored in the event of a failure.
- Experience: 3+ years of experience as a DevOps Engineer or in a similar role, with hands-on experience managing infrastructure and deployment pipelines for large-scale applications.
- Cloud Platforms: Strong experience with cloud services such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. Proficiency in cloud-native services, networking, and security configuration.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Proficient with IaC tools such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or Ansible to automate infrastructure provisioning and management.
- CI/CD Pipeline Management: Expertise in building, maintaining, and optimizing CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI, or AWS CodePipeline.
- Configuration Management: Familiarity with configuration management tools like Ansible, Chef, or Puppet to automate server setup and management.
- Containerization & Orchestration: Hands-on experience with Docker and container orchestration tools like Kubernetes, including deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications.
- Scripting and Automation: Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation, environment configuration, and system management.
- Monitoring and Logging Tools: Experience with monitoring and logging tools like Prometheus, Grafana, AWS CloudWatch, Datadog, ELK Stack, or Splunk.
- Security Best Practices: Strong understanding of security concepts, including encryption, access control, vulnerability management, and compliance standards (e.g., NIST, FISMA, or CIS).
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot complex issues in a distributed environment and quickly identify root causes of production incidents.
- Collaboration and Communication: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including developers, QA, and security teams. Ability to communicate technical issues clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Compliance Knowledge: Understanding of government regulations and standards related to data security and privacy (e.g., FISMA, HIPAA, GDPR) and how they impact DevOps practices.
- Agile and DevOps Methodologies: Experience working in an Agile environment, utilizing DevOps principles to automate processes, streamline workflows, and deliver software more efficiently.
- Serverless Technologies: Experience with serverless computing platforms such as AWS Lambda or Azure Functions.
- DevSecOps: Familiarity with integrating security practices into the DevOps pipeline (DevSecOps), including automated security testing and vulnerability scanning.
- Container Security: Knowledge of container security best practices and tools like Aqua, Twistlock, or Falco to secure containerized environments.
- Compliance Certifications: Certifications such as Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, or other relevant security/compliance certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM).
