CodePath.org Employee Perspectives

In this Q&A with Blue Meridian Partners, CodePath CEO Michael Ellison shares the personal story behind the mission, from growing up homeless in rural Maine to building a nonprofit focused on opening tech careers to students who are too often locked out of them. He breaks down how CodePath partners with universities to deliver rigorous, industry-aligned training, uses AI to personalize learning at scale, and is working toward a goal of serving 100,000 students a year by 2030.

CodePath.org Employee Reviews

CodePath is a rare kind of organization. It's a nonprofit with a huge mission, and it runs like a modern, lean, fast-moving startup. I've spent a decade in K-12 education and a decade building SaaS products across Edtech and HR tech. Throughout all of it, I've held mission as my top priority, and CodePath was a perfect fit. I couldn't be more excited to join and help prepare students for meaningful careers in tech, no matter their background, by equipping them with the tools they need for a world of work that's shifting under their feet faster than anything we've ever seen.

The work we do at CodePath runs deeper than a single course or semester. We build skills and create opportunities for students who would otherwise not have access to them.

Whether they are switching career paths, leveling up their CS degree, working multiple jobs, or supporting a family, CodePath isn't a stepping stone, it's a turning point, shaping not just their first job, but the entire trajectory of their career.

That's the privilege of this work. We get to become part of their story, and in doing so, we expand what's possible for their future.

University partnership work requires flexibility above all else — every school operates on its own timeline, by its own rules, with its own priorities. The real expertise is managing that balance so it's a win for the university, a win for CodePath, and most importantly, a win for students. And in the daily grind of trackers and Slack messages, it's easy to forget that's what we're really doing — helping people change their lives. Every time I step into a classroom and see the energy of the instructor and the eagerness of the TFs, I remember.
