SmartBear, a Somerville-based company helping software development teams improve app delivery, announced the appointment of its new chief revenue officer. Dave Phillips, who joined the SmartBear team in 2024, was promoted from senior vice president of customer success and renewals, bringing two decades of executive go-to-market experience to his new position as CRO.

SmartBear provides software assurance solutions, offering deep test automation, API lifecycle management and observability capabilities to millions of developers across 32,000 organizations. In his previous position, Phillips strengthened SmartBear’s customer retention, expanded its strategic customer relationships and helped build a more customer-centric revenue organization. He will lead global revenue growth by overseeing sales, customer success, renewals, channel partnerships and go-to-market strategy in his new capacity as CRO.

“Dave has earned the trust of our leadership team, our employees and our customers by building strong teams, driving execution and staying relentlessly focused on customer outcomes,” Dan Faulkner, SmartBear’s CEO, said in a statement. “He brings deep sales expertise and a proven track record in customer success. As AI transforms how software is built and tested, application integrity is the standard the market needs to meet, and Dave’s role is making sure our customers have access to the solutions that get them there.”
