What It’s Like to Build a Sales Career at Beyond Finance

Erin understands the struggles that Beyond Finance’s customers face.

What Does Beyond Finance Do?

Beyond Finance is a leading financial wellness and debt consolidation company helping Americans get out of debt, and providing the tools for long-term success.

After all, she was one of them once. Erin discovered the company while facing personal financial hardships. Not only did the company help her manage her debt, but it also opened her eyes to an impactful career opportunity.

When Erin joined Beyond Finance, she got to pay that support forward to others, setting her on a meaningful career journey, which culminated in her current role as director of sales.

“It is incredibly rare to find a sales role where you can fundamentally alter the trajectory of someone’s life for the better in a single one-hour phone call,” Erin said. “We aren’t just hitting a quota — we are delivering a financial lifeline.”

The opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives is also what brought Andrew to Beyond Finance. He joined following the economic recession of 2008, driven by a desire to help people in need of debt relief services, and he continues carrying out that mission in his current role as senior director of sales at Beyond Finance.

Erin and Andrew shared more about what it’s like working on the sales team at Beyond Finance, and how they ensure every teammate has an equal chance to thrive by offering ongoing support, flexibility and ample growth opportunities.

How Beyond Finance’s Sales Leaders Support Employee Success and Well-Being

Beyond Finance’s sales leaders consider support a critical component of their day-to-day work. Whether Erin is acting as a strategic business analyst or helping a colleague navigate a personal hurdle, she understands that her role as a sales leader is ever-changing yet continuously focused on unlocking impact for others.

“Our role is all about balancing operational precision with human-centric leadership,” Erin said.

Leaders like Erin and Andrew embrace a servant-leadership mindset, giving sales reps the tools, confidence and mastery needed to maximize their potential and help customers effectively. They take time to understand each rep’s unique motivators, goals and communication style so that they can provide tailored coaching and personal support.

Andrew said he encourages those on his team to take a consultative approach to supporting customers, while keeping honesty at the forefront of their actions.

“Transparency is key as we want to do our best to make sure our clients understand how we will be helping them with their finances so that they can be successful in the long run,” Andrew said.

To stay connected, sales team members collaborate through Google Meet and Slack. They also connect during onsite events, where they share the tactics and tools they use to be successful and get to know each other better on a personal level.

Even with manager and team support, sales can still feel like an uphill battle at times — which is why Beyond Finance sales leaders place a big emphasis on employee wellbeing.

Beyond Finance offers reps flexible daily work schedules, as well as work-from-home opportunities. And during sales performance competitions, team members have the chance to select extra time off as a reward. They’ve also implemented an in-house sales success coaching program.

“This resource gives agents a confidential space to work through personal stressors or performance anxiety, and co-create an actionable game plan to regain their footing and alleviate stress,” Erin said.

This opportunity for additional one-on-one support, coupled with other holistic resources, enables Beyond Finance sales reps to balance business success with personal well-being.

“By blending remote flexibility, proactive wellness coaching and tangible time off rewards, we ensure our people have the breathing room to recharge, stay fulfilled and maintain peak performance over the long haul,” Erin said.

Growth Opportunities on Beyond Finance’s Sales Team

Beyond Finance’s sales team is structured in a way that helps everyone grow and, ultimately, step into a leadership role.

The floor manager role serves as the first stepping stone into a leadership position, Erin said, enabling team members to gain hands-on experience by supporting the management tier, running live coaching sessions and providing real-time feedback to peers on the floor. Team members can then progress to take on full-time management and director-level positions.

According to Erin, the proof of team members’ growth is in the numbers. When she joined Beyond Finance eight years ago, the sales team had just 15 managers. Now, there are over 50.

A key element of this growth is rooted in team members’ desire to take on new challenges. To encourage curiosity, sales leaders embrace a “best idea wins” philosophy, offering a $1,000 incentive to any employee who pitches a viable, innovative strategy to improve the team’s sales systems or processes.

How Does Beyond Finance Support Sales Team Growth?

Beyond Finance supports sales team growth through a four-week onboarding program, ongoing training, a call library, peer call reviews, performance incentives, leadership development opportunities and flexible work options.

“This motivates our team to think outside the box, solves complex operational bottlenecks and creates an empowering environment where every single employee knows they have a tangible stake in the direction and scaling of the company,” Erin said.

While sales team members prove their skills over time, they’re also supported to grow from the moment they join the team. Erin said that the sales team follows a four-week onboarding curriculum that’s designed to help new hires refine their skill sets quickly before joining their permanent teams.

But the support doesn’t stop once onboarding is complete. As new hires assimilate, they receive ongoing training on specialized topics, such as real-time shifts in the macroeconomic landscape, and tone of voice and delivery. They can also leverage a centralized call library to study top-notch sales strategies and even get to regularly review and vote on each other’s calls, with the winning calls earning a $1,000 reward.

“It turns professional development into a highly collaborative, rewarding team effort,” Erin said.

Traits of Top Performers on Beyond Finance’s Sales Team

According to Erin, there are many qualities that define top performers on Beyond Finance’s sales team, but empathy is one of the most important ones. “We know that the vast majority of our clients didn’t accumulate debt through reckless spending,” Erin said. “It was driven by unforeseen life disruptions such as medical emergencies, job losses or compounding hardships. Relating to that human experience on a peer-to-peer level is what allows us to break down taboos, protect consumer dignity, and guide clients towards financial freedom.”

Andrew added that top performers also possess strong communication and organizational skills, as well as a positive outlook, the latter of which is helpful for staying on track and moving forward, even when faced with adversity.

Why Build a Sales Career at Beyond Finance?

For Erin, working at Beyond Finance isn’t just a professional milestone — it’s an “inspiring experience.”

Every day, team members send messages over Slack to express how fulfilled they are by the company’s mission, how they’ve been challenged to grow, and how grateful they are to be able to achieve their financial goals.

“It’s rare to find a sales division where changing clients’ lives and achieving personal success line up so well,” Erin said.

Andrew believes that the sales team’s flexible culture, coupled with the company’s noble mission, is enough of a reason to decide to join the team.

“The ability to work remotely, help people who are struggling with their finances, and feel like you are making a difference in the lives of people are key reasons,” Andrew said.

Working on Beyond Finance’s sales team is defined by unlocking opportunities for oneself and others, making it a truly unique — and impactful — place to build a sales career.

“At Beyond Finance, caring isn’t just a corporate value — it is the operational baseline that differentiates us from our competitors,” Erin said.
