Corundum Systems Biology, a Japanese investment firm focused on advancing human health through biology-driven solutions, has opened its first U.S. office at CIC Cambridge, One Broadway, in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

CSB takes a systems-based approach to funding scientific research, focusing on the body’s interconnected biological ecosystems to uncover the root cause of disease, according to a news release. By providing funding, resources and mentorship, the firm helps researchers and entrepreneurs accelerate the development of targeted interventions that delay or prevent disease onset.

With investments already made in three Boston-based biotech companies, the new office is expected to strengthen CSB’s commitment to local innovation.

“Massachusetts, with its wealth of world-leading academic and research institutions, is the center of gravity for bioscience and medical innovation. With our growing presence in North America, we can tap into the vast amounts of research emerging from these world-class universities, source new opportunities to fund pioneering research and increase our collaborations with key partners,” Hidehiko Otake, CEO of CBS, said in a statement.
