How Employees Build Their Careers at Mirakl

When the bar is set high, everything changes.

Just ask James Williams, a senior director of commercial AI and intelligence at Mirakl, a company that provides e-commerce software solutions to retailers and B2B enterprises. From the speed of execution to the scale of thinking, Williams said there are many elements that make Mirakl a unique place to work and grow.

What Does Mirakl Do?

Mirakl’s operating system combines an enterprise marketplace solution that enables retailers and B2B organizations to launch, scale and operate marketplaces and dropship, AI-powered multichannel selling, retail media and an agentic commerce infrastructure.

Williams joined Mirakl in 2021 as the chief of staff to Mirakl’s co-founder and co-CEO, Adrien Nussenbaum, which gave him valuable exposure to opportunities and challenges across the business. Now, he leads a team that uses data and AI to generate insights for customers and help prospects better understand the value Mirakl can unlock for their business.

“One of the most rewarding parts of that journey has been seeing the credibility of the team grow,” Williams said. “Initially, we had to push our insights into the organization. Now, those insights are increasingly being pulled by field teams who actively want and rely on them.”

His journey reflects the power of Mirakl’s growth-focused culture, which is driven by supportive leaders and impactful career development resources and opportunities.

“I feel confident that as the company continues to grow, new opportunities will keep emerging for people willing to stretch themselves and contribute,” Williams said.

How Internal Mobility Supports Career Growth at Mirakl

Whitney Mayfield has always been drawn to fast-paced environments where there’s something new to build and learn, and at Mirakl, she has found exactly that — and more.

Whitney, manager of operator relationships, joined Mirakl four years ago to help manage a team focused on outbound recruitment, before transitioning to working directly with our current and upcoming operators to launch and scale their marketplaces. Last year, Mayfield became an account executive, which gave her firsthand experience working with brands and prepared her for her current role.

“Mirakl has always given me the opportunity to try new things and develop new skill sets,” she said. “I’m naturally curious and motivated by learning, so I’m always looking for ways to grow and take on new challenges.”

What Career Growth Resources Does Mirakl Offer?

  • Mentorship
  • Co-op program
  • Cross-functional collaboration
  • Internal mobility
  • Leadership development
  • AI experimentation

Before joining Mirakl, Mayfield spent years working in the fashion and retail industry, which gave her the skills needed to build strong brand relationships and broadened her understanding of the retail and e-commerce landscape.

“I use this expertise every day when working with our clients,” she said. “Being able to bring together everything I’ve learned throughout my career — while continuing to grow at Mirakl — has been incredibly rewarding.”

Vice President of Growth Marketing Hannah Corey has had a similarly diverse and rewarding work experience at Mirakl. In 2016, she joined the company as it was entering the U.S. market, and saw an opportunity to build a demand generation function from the ground up, captivated by the founders’ vision for the future of e-commerce. Watching how Amazon redefined retail expectations, Corey asked herself, “Why shouldn’t other retailers have access to that same competitive advantage?”

Over the years, she has sought to close this gap in the retail space by building and leading the company’s growth marketing function, scaling her team from two to 13 employees while leading initiatives from marketing operations to large-scale events across North America and Latin America. Corey’s current team stays busy delivering high-impact programs that create and accelerate pipeline opportunities for Mirakl’s sales organization.

Corey thrives when she’s given ownership, so she’s led the company’s corporate conference for the past four years. More recently, she’s helped her team strategically implement AI tools to enhance efficiency and automate repetitive tasks, enabling team members to focus more on higher-value strategic work.

“I’ve grown from an individual contributor to a people leader building and managing high-performing teams, cultivating talent and creating environments where team members thrive,” Corey said.

What Professional Development Programs and Resources Mirakl Offers

“Developing talent isn’t just good practice — it’s essential to our continued success,” Corey said.

That’s why Mirakl invests heavily in employees’ professional development in a way that sets the organization apart. Corey has leveraged a variety of growth resources throughout her journey, including leadership and team management courses that taught her frameworks and methodologies that she applies to her day-to-day work.

Mentorship and internal mobility are also critical components of Mirakl’s growth culture. According to Williams, Mirakl’s current chief technology officer, for example, joined Mirakl as its first developer more than a decade ago, while the vice president of B2B for the U.S. division was the company’s first business development representative in France.

“Those stories do not happen by chance; they happen because people at every level are expected to invest in developing those around them,” Williams said.

Mirakl’s co-op program with Northeastern University is another key driver of employee development, enabling early-career professionals to gain industry experience and, in some cases, return to the company as a full-time employee.

“From day one, we encourage them to build relationships across the office, not just for networking, but because we believe development should be mutual,” Williams said. “We want to help them grow, but we also want to learn from them, especially when it comes to new ways of thinking and working.”

Cross-functional collaboration serves as yet another growth opportunity, giving employees exposure to different teams and business areas, which sometimes leads to team members pursuing new career paths in different departments.

“These kinds of internal moves are encouraged and supported,” Mayfield said. “Not only does this help with employee retention, but it also creates a highly collaborative environment where people share knowledge, learn from one another, and continue to grow within the company.”

How Friday Lunches Support Connection and Learning at Mirakl

According to Williams, Mirakl’s culture of growth also manifests in an unlikely way: Friday lunches in the Boston office. “Fridays can sometimes be quieter in person, but everyone who is there gathers around one big table for lunch, and if it gets crowded, we all squeeze in,” he said. “Conversation usually starts with weekend plans, but it almost always shifts into discussing an idea, a challenge or an opportunity someone is working through.” All team members, both junior and senior, actively share ideas and contribute to the debate, reflecting Mirakl’s nonhierarchical approach to connection and knowledge-sharing. “That kind of environment creates constant learning across teams and levels,” Williams said. “It is informal but incredibly valuable, and it reflects the broader culture at Mirakl: People are encouraged to think beyond their role, speak up, and learn from one another.”

How Mirakl Leaders Support Employee Growth

Knowledge-sharing and support drive growth across Mirakl — and it all starts at the very top.

“Leaders at all levels are genuinely invested in developing others, creating an environment where continuous learning is embedded in our daily work,” Corey said.

Corey embodies this by investing in each team member’s growth. She embraces the principle that “feedback is a gift” in her regular one-on-ones, which go beyond status updates to cover career conversations, skill development and honest dialogue.

Stretch projects also play a leading role in Corey’s approach to leadership, one that is shared by other managers across the company.

“Rather than keeping people confined to rigid job descriptions, we actively identify projects and initiatives that align with their development goals while meeting business needs, whether that’s leading a high-profile event, owning a new marketing channel or taking on cross-functional roles,” she said.

How Mirakl Teams Use AI in Their Work

After pioneering the platform revolution, Mirakl is now leading its AI transformation across both products and internal operations. This positions employees at the forefront of enterprise AI implementation, giving them rare, hands-on exposure to how leading companies operationalize AI at scale. What that translates to in practice is constant learning, experimenting and iterating, Williams said.

“That environment has pushed me to become more ambitious in the projects we take on, more comfortable with ambiguity and more confident leading through change,” Williams said.

With support from leadership, Williams is preparing to step into a new role related to agentic commerce, the next evolution of digital shopping where AI agents research, negotiate and even purchase on behalf of businesses and consumers.

“At this stage in my career, I am especially energized by opportunities where the path is not fully defined yet, because those roles tend to offer the most room for learning, impact and growth,” Williams said. “That is exactly what this next chapter represents for me.”

AI is woven into the day-to-day work of teams across Mirakl. On Corey's team, for example, the technology is transforming workflows to create more personalized, relevant campaigns that resonate with audiences and drive measurable business results.

“The goal is to move from good campaigns to exceptional ones by using AI to derive deeper insights, optimize in real-time, and scale what works,” she said.

Those who join Mirakl will find ample opportunities to do more, supportive managers and leadership, and the opportunity to shape the future of e-commerce.

“For me, that has made it an exciting place to build a career,” Williams said.
