Bose, a company specializing in audio solutions, recently announced two acquisitions. The company added Firelight Technologies and Skullcandy to its portfolio. Firelight Technologies is the creator of interactive audio software platform FMOD, and Skullcandy produces headphones, earbuds and speakers that embody sports culture and bold style.

“For more than 60 years, Bose has been committed to delivering incredible audio experiences however and wherever people choose to listen,” Lila Snyder, Bose’s CEO, said in a statement. “As we work to reach even more people, we’re expanding how we do that, not only through Bose products, but through technology partnerships and a growing portfolio of brands.”

Bose focuses on research and engineering to deliver sound devices for various applications, from headphones and speakers to mixing boards and aviation headsets. Its acquisition of Firelight will integrate FMOD’s capabilities into Bose’s technology stack, granting the company access to new opportunities within the immersive gaming segment. Game developers often use FMOD to create audio that responds to real-time game events.

“The acquisition of Firelight is a meaningful step forward in the Audio Technology business we’re building at Bose,” Nick Smith, president of Bose Audio Technology and chief strategy officer, said in a statement. “Gaming represents a significant opportunity for our continued growth, and we believe our audio expertise can help creators deliver even better experiences for players.”

Bose’s acquisition of Skullcandy follows a multi-year partnership that incorporated Sound by Bose technology into Skullcandy earbuds and headphones. The combined organization will leverage Bose’s audio expertise, technology and global reach in conjunction with Skullcandy’s design, customer understanding and community connections to develop new products and experiences and fuel continued growth.
