These fast-growing Boston tech companies are hiring team members dedicated to internalizing organizational values and creating innovative solutions.

While standout products, motivating missions and collaborative team cultures initially drew the featured employees to these companies, meaningful leadership and professional growth opportunities have incentivized them to stay. They say that new hires can expect to join teams that are serious about living their values, developing employees’ technical skills and inspiring significant organizational and industry-wide improvements.

The leaders featured — from Vestmark, Stride Funding and Asimov — advised new team members to be proactive and willing to jump in to collaborate with teams from day one. They connected with Built In Boston to share these tips and more for driving high-impact growth at their companies.

Robert Battista
SVP and Managing Director, Vestmark Advisory Solutions • Vestmark, Inc.

Vestmark provides wealth portfolio management and trading solutions for financial institutions and their advisors.

What first drew you to Vestmark? How have your expectations been met since coming aboard?

Before joining Vestmark in 2022, I worked for one of its longtime clients and always had a favorable opinion of the company. I reached a point in my career when I wanted a company where I could use my skills to build something innovative, and Vestmark was the first place I looked at.

After learning more about the company’s plans to become a leader in direct indexing and personalized investing, I saw an opportunity to be a game changer in the industry. Every conversation that I had throughout the interview process made me even more excited, and after being here for a little more than a year, I couldn’t be happier.

What has been your biggest success since joining the team?

During my first year at Vestmark, I was given the opportunity to lead a high-performing team of professionals who were integral to the launch of a revolutionary product. Vestmark VAST, unveiled in April, drives personalization in portfolio management at scale.

Being part of the project was gratifying on many levels. While we still have a lot of work ahead to support this new product, our team enjoyed a great sense of collective accomplishment after meeting our target release date.

Vestmark is currently hiring. How can new hires make an immediate impact?

Vestmark is always on the lookout for talented individuals with diverse backgrounds who are curious and proactive problem solvers. In order to make an immediate impact, new hires should embrace Vestmark’s core values: “we before me,” “positive energy,” “knowledge explorer” and “own it.”

There is a tremendous sense that everyone is rowing in the same direction at Vestmark, and we take pride in fostering a highly collaborative environment. My advice is to simply jump in the boat and start rowing.

Over time, it will become clear how your background and skill set will be most useful, and this timeline can be accelerated by actively engaging individuals throughout the organization.

Andrew Kenney
VP, Engineering and Data Science • Stride Funding

Stride Funding offers alternative financing products for higher education, such as income share loans, deferred tuition agreements, employer-sponsored loan programs and more.

What first drew you to Stride Funding? How have your expectations been met since coming aboard?

Stride’s mission is what immediately attracted me to the company. I wanted to make sure that I worked for a high-growth tech company that was committed to making the world a better place. The fact that Stride’s product expands access to higher education in a more inclusive fashion resonates strongly with me.

My earliest interactions with the team also illustrated that Stride has a culture of high IQ and performance, but low ego. We attract people who are humble and committed to changing the world. This was reaffirmed, time and time again, as the company grew over my first two years.

What has been your biggest success since joining the team?

I’m most proud of building a high-performing technical team that represents the students we serve. We have employees who came from coding bootcamps, others who came from more traditional computer science backgrounds and even Ph.D. programs. Some of our employees have had large career pivots, while others have been working in the finance and startup worlds for years.

Our team is a diverse mix of educational backgrounds, races, religions, sexual orientations, gender identities and socioeconomic backgrounds. We’ve come together to build innovative financial models and best-in-class experiences that improve access to education, and the diversity of our staff helps shape our product offerings for the better.

As we expand our team, we are looking for individuals who want to make a large impact doing the best work of their career.”

Stride Funding is currently hiring. How can new hires make an immediate impact?

My goal is for technical team members to hit the ground running and write code on their very first day, as part of the larger company onboarding schedule. We spend a lot of time optimizing our local development environment experiences and continuous integration and continuous deployment, as well as utilizing best-of-breed SaaS tools for data science collaboration. This ensures that the team has the guardrails and feedback needed to grow quickly in our environment.

It is a great time to join Stride, as we recently launched our loan originations platform and integrated with many best-of-breed fintech solutions. Plus, we are working toward launching innovative financial products to help even more students achieve their educational goals.

As we expand our team, we are looking for individuals who want to make a large impact doing the best work of their career. I’m excited to see what the newest members of the team will build.

Jess Rock
Senior Lab Operations Manager • Asimov

Asimov builds tools to program living cells and power advanced genetic design.

What first drew you to Asimov? How have your expectations been met since coming aboard?

I was highly attracted to the company’s collaborative team culture that emphasizes continuous learning, knowledge sharing and cross-pollinating ideas and expertise. Being part of a team that shares common goals and values was a significant draw for me.

I have thoroughly enjoyed working at Asimov, and the principles that initially drew me to the company have only strengthened over time.

What has been your biggest success since joining the team?

One of my most significant successes was moving our three laboratory sites into the new company headquarters. By bringing all of our laboratory sites under one roof, we were able to streamline operations and promote efficient communication and collaboration.

The project took more than a year to complete, and it involved an exceptional amount of teamwork and coordination to make it successful. Executing this project required managing many stakeholders and responsibilities — from designing our new space to planning and coordinating the logistics of moving sensitive equipment, managing vendor and supplier relationships, and ensuring compliance with all permits and regulations.

Overall, the successful consolidation of our laboratory sites was a testament to our effective teamwork, collaboration and communication. I’m proud of what we achieved, and it has positioned us for continued success in the future.

I’d advise new employees looking to make an immediate impact to learn as much as you can about our mission and values, along with your role and team.”
