Boston-based startup Buoy Health created a digital triage tool that helps people understand how serious their health concerns are. This health screening tool uses scientific and medical research along with AI and data science to identify a person’s health issue and come up with a plan for addressing it.

But Buoy believes that its technology can be useful as the country continues to deal with a major health crisis: COVID-19.

On Monday, the company announced the launch of Back With Care — an employer platform that provides risk assessment and personalized guidance as employers transition their employees back into the workplace as seamlessly and safely as possible.

Back with Care helps companies provide their employees with daily screening. The tool also takes in information about employees’ risk factors and potential exposure, so employers can make informed decisions about how the workplace as a whole will be affected.

COVID-19 has been spreading across the country for the past few months, but despite the fact that it is still prevalent — with new cases increasing in some parts of the country — many businesses are looking to reopen. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has provided resources and guidelines to help these businesses reopen safely, without putting their employees or customers at risk. One of these guidelines involves daily health screening, so businesses can catch a COVID-19 case before more people get infected.

To create the Back With Care platform, Buoy Health formed an advisory board of experts who hold MDs or Ph.D.s in biology, epidemiology and economics. These experts will provide insights on things like testing, vaccines and more to help support the platform.

“At Buoy, we seek to give our users the most timely, actionable information, so they can make informed decisions about their health. This essential part of our mission has become even more critical in recent months,” Andrew Le, MD, cofounder and CEO of Buoy Health, said in a statement. “Our advisory board is yet another step to ensure our Back With Care platform is led by experts in the medical, scientific and economic fields and grounded in the best data and research — while also balancing the practical nuances and needs of every individual businesses’ reopening strategy.”
