Shell TechWorks, an energy innovation hub that formed within the giant oil company, started in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 2013. On the company’s website, it says that its office is located in “the world’s most innovative square mile.”

That’s because it shares the neighborhood with Apple, Google, Microsoft and MIT.

However, the company is getting ready to move all the way across the river to Boston.

Shell TechWorks just signed a 10-year lease for about 43,000 square feet of office space in Two Drydock — a brand new development in Boston’s Seaport district. Shell TechWorks is one of the first to sign a lease for the building, which is still being developed. Shell TechWorks will likely move into the building in the second quarter of 2020.

According to reports, Shell TechWorks has run out of space at its current Cambridge office, so this new office will give the innovation hub enough space for its 90 employees as well as room to grow.

Two Drydock is a 13-story building with plenty of amenities, including a fitness center, 800 square feet of retail space, rooftop terrace, lounge spaces, bike storage and 150 off-ground parking spaces. The building is also LEED Gold and Fitwel certified.

The Seaport District is a relatively new neighborhood in Boston, but already all sorts of building developers are flocking to it. And with more building projects like Two Drydock, we may see more companies moving to the area too.
