Digital, connected health devices are supposed to streamline healthcare. But they’re often cumbersome to use, and many do not provide clear and actionable paths to better health.

BewellConnect, a connected care startup that launched its Boston office early last year, hopes to solve these challenges. Rather than manufacture its own devices, the startup wants to offer a suite of healthcare services of which FDA-approved products are a component.

On Thursday, Bewell announced that parent company Visiomed Group raised $30 million to tackle these obstacles and ultimately provide better remote care to patients. New York-based Hudson Bay Capital Management led the round.

BewellConnect will use the funding to accelerate the development of its connected health products and services — particularly in the area of remote patient monitoring. The financing will also go toward researching how Bewell’s remote monitoring devices work with heart failure patients.

"As the healthcare market continues to evolve, patients need to feel empowered in the management of their care,” said Olivier Hua, CEO of BewellConnect, in a statement. “This funding will help raise awareness of our products and services and help us demonstrate how the BewellConnect suite can improve both care and doctor/patient communications.”

The startup uses connected health devices to monitor patient progress and send the information back to the physician, enabling patients to be more educated and empowered in playing a part in their healthcare. Devices also share data automatically, alleviating strain on primary care physicians who are often overburdened and unable to gather or sort data from their patients.

Bewell’s role in all of this is “BewellConnect,” an application for medical interpretation and personalized healthcare. This app adds services to use in conjunction with Visiomed’s connected devices, which monitor everything from your temperature and weight to blood pressure and oxygen levels.
