About Us:

Brightcove is the global leader in providing online video to Media and Digital Marketing organizations. Our global services team, BGS, builds highly scalable and complex solutions on our platform for some of the best known media companies in the world and we're expanding. If you have great technical skill, a passion for online video, a keen sense of creativity and a willingness to work with our clients to build awesome experiences, we'd love to talk.

What we are looking for:

We're looking for a great Node.js developer with experience building microservices and delivering at huge scale (think video delivery to hundreds of thousands of concurrent viewers). We take for granted that you know JS inside and out and are familiar with the most common Node frameworks. We're also expecting you to be creative in designing services, proficient enough in one or more mobile platforms and front-end frameworks to hold your own with our app teams, and humble enough to both take feedback and mentor others.

What you will do here:

  • Develop real-time communication applications using microservices and containers integrating with Brightcove products and 3rd party service providers
  • Integrate user-facing elements developed by front-end developers with server side logic
  • Write reusable, testable, and efficient code
  • Mentor more junior staff members and be a role model for best practices in technical development

What you will bring here:

  • 5+ years of experience in Node.js development
  • Strong proficiency with vanilla JavaScript
  • Strong Object Oriented Programming and Development skills
  • Strong knowledge of Node.js and frameworks available for it
  • Understanding the nature of asynchronous programming and its quirks and workarounds
  • Good understanding of server-side templating languages
  • Basic understanding of front-end technologies, such as HTML5, and CSS3
  • Understanding data security compliance and security best practices
  • Experience in profiling, debugging & troubleshooting Node.js processes
  • Understanding of fundamental design principles behind a scalable application
  • Understanding of differences between multiple delivery platforms, such as mobile vs. desktop, and optimizing output to match the specific platform
  • Familiar with Linux-based systems, comfortable in the terminal and SSH
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git
  • Experience with nginx, AWS and cloud-based architecture a strong plus

Why you want to work here:

What we offer is the chance to work with a small, passionate team inside Brightcove to build some amazing media platforms, competitive compensation, options, benefits, unlimited vacation and an amazing office.

This role is based out of our Boston office located downtown by South Station.
