We are the strongest team in an industry where software has been under-appreciated for far too long. Mechanical engineering tools are stuck in the 90s and their iteration time is days rather than hours. Our new materials and printing process need innovative algorithms to make them possible and a well-designed user experience to make them accessible. Help us fulfill the promise of 3D printing and bring metal-strength manufacturing to the masses.

Our Software team is all super full-stack and we generally distribute software tasks based on individual interest. As our 5th software engineer, you will have tons of project ownership. Your ideas will influence the company's direction. You will do interdisciplinary work on physical systems and learn from best-of-the-best engineers across MatSci, Mech-E, EE, and SW, mostly MIT grads.

To succeed here, you need to be a quick learner and have a passion for software engineering. You don't need prior experience with 3D printing or our software stack, you can pick up those skills on the job.

You will:

  • Invent new computational geometry algorithms for automatically reinforcing 3D-printed nylon parts with high-strength fibers
  • Dive into the Debian-based embedded system that powers the printer's touchscreen, communicates with its firmware, and provides wifi connectivity
  • Architect a scalable backend to store the world's 3D data and allow seamless collaboration between CAD jockeys
  • Use AngularJS and WebGL to create a beautiful browser-based slicing experience

We're looking for people who:

  • Want to contribute to a culture of excellence
  • Are experts in computational geometry, embedded systems, distributed systems, computer graphics, or web design
  • Have a strong portfolio of past work and personal projects.
  • Learn new technologies quickly
  • Have enthusiasm for mechanical engineering and 3D printing
