Position Summary

We are seeking a Research Associate II/Senior Research Associate to join our next generation sequencing (NGS) wet lab. The successful candidate will be responsible for the execution of various molecular assays and NGS library preparation workflows to support the development of novel genetic therapies for serious diseases. This position requires enthusiasm, attention to detail, collaborative spirit, and a desire to create new medicines for patients.

Responsibilities

  • Perform DNA/RNA extractions from biological samples
  • Transform nucleic acid samples into next generation sequencing libraries for a variety of downstream applications using manual or automated methods
  • Perform routine quality control experiments on sequencing libraries (fluorescent quantification, capillary electrophoresis, and qPCR) and prepare samples for sequencing
  • Apply operational knowledge of instruments used in the genomics space (e.g. TapeStation, Bioanalyzer, optical plate reader, robotic liquid handlers, and Illumina sequencers) 
  • Track sample data and project timelines through a laboratory information management system (LIMS) and electronic laboratory notebook (ELN)
  • Maintain sequencing instrumentation and laboratory facilities; troubleshoot instrumentation and sequencing issues
  • Communicate effectively across functional teams to ensure timely completion of concurrent projects

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS/MS in biology or related discipline
  • Industry Experience
    • Research Associate II – 2-4 years or 0-2 years with advanced degree
    • Senior Research Associate – 4-7 years or 2-5 years with advanced degree
  • Experience in NGS library preparation starting from DNA and RNA samples (amplicon-seq, target enrichment, WGS, bulk RNAseq)
  • Hands-on experience with Illumina next generation sequencing (NGS) instruments
  • Proficiency in relevant areas of molecular biology and genetics
  • Experience working collaboratively with wet and dry lab scientists, and understanding large data sets 
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to think strategically, manage time efficiently, and work independently in a results-oriented research team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior research experience in the biotech industry with a focus on next generation sequencing
  • Experience with Hamilton instrumentation, Illumina BaseSpace, and a laboratory information management system (LIMS)
  • Hands-on experience with long read sequencing technologies (Oxford Nanopore, PacBio)
  • Experience with NGS-based assay development and troubleshooting
  • Working knowledge of gene editing technologies
