Toast is a rapidly growing startup building the first all-in-one restaurant management platform. Toast’s Android tablet based system helps restaurants operate more efficiently and connect with their customer base in new and innovative ways. We’re growing fast and have a customer base comprised of cafes, restaurants, bars and nightclubs across the country.

We are seeking a Director of Hardware Engineering who will be responsible for the following:

Manage supply chain for existing product and lead team of hardware product managers and engineering contractors

Manage the development of custom Android POS products to delight customers through ODM partnerships

Develop strategic understanding of restaurant POS and competitive landscape

Working with company founders and marketing experts, and key customers accounts, develop long term HW product plan

Review, select and build strategic partnership with development and manufacturing partners

Build out the hardware team and process to support longer term hardware strategy

Qualifications:

8+ years of experience in leading the design and launching of hardware products

Following skills are required: Bachelor’s degree or U.S. equiv. in Electrical Eng., Mechanical Eng. or related eng. field

Experience with early stage technology development

Leads through collaboration, demonstrated facilitation skills across different functions, motivated by collective success

Experience building strategic partnership and managing hardware vendors and suppliers

Strong understanding of hardware product development processes, from market research, user study, design, prototyping, production and post production quality support, including technical fluency across multiple engineering domains

Proven experience in bridging the technical and business sides of hardware projects; and ability to understand technology trends and their impact to the product roadmap
