To help with that growth, ShortestTrack is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Data Science Solution Manager to manage the development of AI/analytics solutions to specific business problems.  The Data Science Solution Manager is responsible for prioritizing, developing and managing the work of external data science experts in the development of these solutions.

The data science solution manager builds, manages, and administers a team of data scientists working to develop an artificial intelligence solution to specific business problem.   As data science team grows, the data science solution manager would specialize in project management and analytics development, with a particular focus in:

• Building a data scientist team with specific skills required for a particular business problem.

• Developing process for breaking AI solution requirements into component parts for individualized solutions.

• Fostering collaboration between data scientists to encourage ensembling, division of labor, and inter-operability.

The solution manager’s responsibilities will include:

Recruitment

• Assist in development of data science contractor job postings relevant to project needs.

• Post and monitor data science job postings on Upwork, Freelancer, and other freelance job posting sites.

• Participate in data scientist selection process.

Project Management

• Define and track data scientist milestones and deadlines.

• Organize and lead check-in’s with project data scientist team.

• Build opportunities for collaboration among project data scientists.

• Work with data science team to troubleshoot issues.

• Serve as liaison between data scientists and business services and architecture teams.

Analytics Development and Testing

• Assist data scientists in testing their approaches and track predictive model development and optimization.

• Translate business requirements into specifications for analytics development.

• Identify opportunities for ensembling and combining analytics approaches.

Contractor Relations

• Keep accounting of hours worked by contracted data scientists.

• Evaluate data scientists and provide feedback, when appropriate.

A successful candidate will:

• Be based in Boston, MA or Chicago, IL

• 3+ years’ experience managing data science teams

• Have a working knowledge of R and python for data science and analytics

• Have a functional understanding of modern big data technologies (Kafka, Spark, graph database technology)

• Be able to collaborate successfully with part-time contractors,  including international contractors

• Have experience using JIRA and Confluence; Experience with Slack is a plus

• Be naturally curious, in a way that drives and informs your approach to project management

• Have agile coaching competency

• Have a degree in data science-related field preferred

• Have excellent oral and written communication, planning, and analytical skills.

• Have the capacity to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
