EnerNOC, a leading provider of energy intelligence software (EIS), has a need for a Data Operations Associate to join our world-class Global Support organization. The mission of the Data Operations team is to provide support and expertise to strategically improve EnerNOC’s data health. The team is responsible for validating and monitoring customer’s data for all EnerNOC’s product offerings. For demand response, EnerNOC is compensated by utilities and in turn compensates our customers based on whether they curtail their energy use during a dispatch in line with their target curtailment. Additional software offerings, such as persistent monitoring and alerting, help customers save money through insights into avoidable usage and peak demand charges. EnerNOC uses interval meter data to quantify performance and savings; it is a critical input to our software solutions.

As a Data Operations Associate, you will demonstrate curiosity, creativity, and initiative to help ensure EnerNOC has accurate data to onboard new customers, settle financial commitments, maintain data health, and provide insight for our software customers. You will become an expert in EnerNOC’s core support and operational processes and will develop a deep understanding of the issues surrounding accurate metering solutions, our underlying data model, and the tools and systems that collect and process this information. Your core responsibilities will require you to find issues in these data and systems, escalate and mitigate them, and then work with the relevant teams to resolve underlying problems. In short, you must be able to both analyze data and communicate your findings to your colleagues.

Responsibilities:

1. Analyze and report business-critical data

  • Identify and correct data quality issues within our Energy, Customer, and Financial platforms (EnerNOC application and CRM tools) as instructed
  • Perform and present in-depth analysis of data quality issues and trends to peers for review

2. Apply problem solving skills to your findings

  • Work with team members to identify opportunities to mitigate risk and structurally address root causes of problems
  • Triage and escalate complex data quality issues to senior team members

3. Understand EnerNOC’s data model

  • Examples: financial obligations, load meters, data streams, generators, and their typical profiles
  • Learn how data is consumed by different teams at EnerNOC and collaborate to analyze the standards they must meet to ensure EnerNOC’s data are fit for their commercial purposes

4. Develop a technical understanding of tools and platforms

  • Assist your team with developing tools, processes, and reports that enable scalable and repeatable delivery of your analyses

5. All other tasks and responsibilities as requested by management

As an ideal Data Operations Associate, you manage your work independently to address all requirements of the job while appropriately escalating to senior members of the team when the issues becomes complex or out of scope. You take an initiative to recommend improvements to existing processes and tools. You refine your practice of core team functions (analysis & reporting, problem solving, data handling, and technical skills). In addition, you begin developing fundamental process and project management skills, as well as mentoring junior members of the team.

Required Qualifications/Skills/Education:

BA/BS, with a degree in a quantitative/analytical field (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research, Engineering, Statistics) or another field with demonstrated ability to work with and derive insights from large amounts of dataDemonstrated ability to work independently and in a team-driven context
Self motivation and the ability to work in a fast paced, forward moving environment
Excellent computer skills, including mastery of Microsoft Office
Demonstrated skills in statistics and data analysis, including a working knowledge of statistical tools (R, MATLAB, Python, etc)
Strong desire to learn new technologies
Ability to introduce new concepts into an existing process
Attention to detail and an inquisitive nature
Excellent oral and written communications skills
Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills
Excellent time management skills and ability to balance conflicting priorities
Ability to manage high stress situations calmly and effectively


Desired Qualifications/Skills/Education:

1-2 years of experience in energy management, data analytics, power generation or related technologies
Prior experience with process improvement and controls
Prior experience with project management
Prior experience mentoring teammates and colleagues
