Desktop Metal is revolutionizing 3D printing of metal parts. Our printer’s robust build processes create complex parts beautifully at a price attainable by any design and manufacturing team and can be used within an office environment. We are seeking a talented and self-motivated Technical Writer to join our expanding team, considering both full and part-time availability. This person will be responsible for authoring and editing technical documents and manuals, explaining complex information in a clear and concise manner while working with subject matter experts, mainly engineers, to ensure content accuracy. Ideal candidates will have experience writing documentation involving hardware and/or software processes.

The Technical Writer will be responsible for: 

  • Plan, develop, organize, write and edit operational procedures and manuals
  • Maintain a comprehensive library of technical terminology and documentation
  • Analyze documents to maintain continuity of style of content
  • Manage updates and revisions to technical documentation
  • Interview SMEs to understand complex processes and products
  • Work with marketing and legal teams to adhere to non-engineering requirements
  • Adhere to product development roadmaps and regulatory schedules

Basic qualifications:

  • Demonstrates ability to author technical documentation for hardware and/or software processes
  • Proven experience working in a technical writing position
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Able to write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Proficient with PDF editor and/or other Adobe tools
  • Knowledge of CAD SWs
  • Proficient with Solidworks Composer or similar SW
  • Ability to explain complex issues in creative, efficient, and effective ways
  • Self-motivated and team player
  • Able to work independently under stressful situations
  • Able to be flexible in a dynamic and fast growing environment
  • Up to 10% travel required
  • Fluent in English 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience working for a tech company with a startup environment
  • Experience in 3D printing / Additive Manufacturing or advanced manufacturing preferred but not required
  • Able to organize and prioritize workload
  • Experience with agile / Propel to PLM (Agile, Propel, Arena, or Omnify)
  • Knowledge of standards for online course delivery like HTML
  • Knowledge of other languages
