Desktop Metal is revolutionizing 3D printing of metal parts. Our printer’s robust build processes create complex parts beautifully, and at a price attainable by any design and manufacturing team. We are looking to bring on board bright, motivated team members across wide spectrum of engineering disciplines. Desktop Metal is presently seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer. The ideal candidate will have experience designing and developing electro-mechanical systems from concept to production.

The Lead Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Developing novel technology and mechanisms that can be applied to multiple stages of the part production process
  • Designing to a product requirements specification and developing derived requirements
  • Producing prototype and production system components
  • Working with an interdisciplinary team to perform detailed designs and analysis
  • Developing and maintaining 3D CAD models of system architecture and components
  • Drive FMEA and design reviews
  • Tolerance stack analysis, including use of GD&T
  • Maintaining high level of communications with cross-functional team and partners
  • Assisting with development of the technical teams required to produce designs
  • Working closely with program management and regulatory teams

Basic Qualifications:

  • Thorough understanding and use of technical principles, theories, and concepts in mechanical, controls, robotics, and systems engineering
  • Broad exposure to mechanical design and development practices including common engineering tools
  • History of integrating many different types of actuators in challenging environments
  • Demonstrated ability to develop deep understanding of the business and end user needs and translate those needs into the right technology solution
  • Ability to resolve complex issues in creative, efficient, and effective ways
  • Able to provide the customer and company-wide perspective to detailed technical decisions
  • Expert in integrated system design
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • BS/MS Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics or equivalent
  • Solidworks proficiency
