Walmart Advanced Systems & Robotics is a rapidly expanding initiative with the objective of revolutionizing the retail landscape through robotics. Our development and implementation of the cutting-edge Alphabot® technology are currently underway, with deployment in stores across North America.

We’re seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to play a critical role in the definition and evaluation of our systems and provide a superior level of technical cross functional support for our product teams. You will be part of a talented team of engineers that demonstrate superb technical competency. You possess the interpersonal skills to collaborate with software and hardware developers and project managers to effectively deliver a product designed to meet customer, associate, and business needs. Qualified Systems Engineers for this position at Alert will have an interdisciplinary background in electromechanical product development and systems engineering principles.

WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON: 

  • Define and drive requirement documentation, including theory of operations and metrics for associate-facing products in the Alphabot system. 
  • Create traceability matrices of from high level market requirements to low level subsystem requirements. 
  • Provide feasibility and optimization studies for proposed designs. 
  • Proactively initiate engagement with cross functional teams to review any deviations in requirements or system assumptions as the product or solution is developed and deployed. 
  • Support the validation and verification process throughout the product or component development life cycle through test case review and test plan development. 
  • Aid in the creation and maintenance of system integration test plans, procedures, and reports to demonstrate desired system performance and comprehensive verification of system requirements. 
  • Perform functional and performance analysis on collected system data; document, root cause and resolve observed issues, anomalies, and provide trouble reports. 

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR: 

  • Interdisciplinary engineering knowledge (depth and breadth), with strong curiosity and proactive problem-solving experience. 
  • Excellent grammar and documentation skills to support the writing of coherent requirement documents. 
  • Ability to resolve issues or difficulties in a manner that is consistent with our company mission, values, and financial objectives. 
  • Critical thinking skills to identify, evaluate, and demonstrate solution to complex system problems. 
  • Self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision to achieve aggressive project goals. 
  • Ability and interest to become subject matter experts, working alongside the development teams. 
  • Experience with common engineering tools, including Pugh Matrices, 8D, DFMEA. 
  • Familiar with standard risk analysis and hazard analysis outputs and their creation. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Jira, Confluence, and requirements management tools (DOORs, JAMA, etc). 
  • Experience with user-facing products and human factors a plus. 
  • Comfort with a fast-paced environment. 
  • Bachelors degree in a related Engineering field and a minimum of 2 - 5 years of relevant work experience.
