R&D Lead Technician

Desktop Metal is revolutionizing 3D printing of metal parts. Our printer’s robust build processes create complex parts beautifully at a price attainable by any design and manufacturing team and can be used within an office environment. We are looking to bring on board bright, motivated team members across wide spectrum of disciplines. Desktop Metal is seeking talented and self-motivated Technicians to join our R&D team. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting R&D in early stages through process scale up with demonstrated leadership experience.

The R&D Lead Technician will be responsible for:

  • Serving as Lead Technician on 1st shift Part Farm team - responsibilities include training technicians, executing build priorities to plan, writing shift summary
  • Supporting the overall day to day operations of the R&D Part Farm - Print, Debind, Sinter
  • Executing printed part requests for both internal and external customers
  • Tracking part workflows and collecting key metrics for analysis
  • Identifying improvement opportunities and reporting back to Engineering team
  • Conducting preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment
  • Assisting Engineering team with material and process development experiments
  • Documenting procedures and cross training junior members of the team

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3-5 years experience in related technical field
  • Associate’s Degree in technical field and/or demonstrated success in industry
  • Experience with various software tools for managing workflow
  • Capable of collecting data and utilizing to inform data driven decisions
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • Demonstrated capability to contribute at a high level both individually and in teams
  • Demonstrated team leadership experience in applicable lab/operations environment
  • Ability to resolve complex issues in creative, efficient, and effective ways
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Exposure to mechatronics design and development practices including common engineering tools

  • Additive manufacturing
  • 3D printing hands on experience
  • High temperature metal processing
  • Chemical handling
  • Furnace operation and maintenance
  • Process troubleshooting
  • 5S Operations
  • Mechatronics
