Quality Engineer

Desktop Metal is revolutionizing 3D printing of metal parts. Our printer’s robust build processes create complex parts beautifully at a price attainable by any design and manufacturing team and can be used within an office environment. We are looking to bring on board bright, motivated team members across wide spectrum of engineering disciplines. Desktop Metal is seeking a talented and self-motivated Quality Engineer to join our Operations team. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting R&D Operations in early stages through scale up.

The Quality Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the overall day to day operations of the R&D Part Farm - Print, Debind, Sinter
  • Developing and implementing best practices that emphasize defect prevention, reduction in variation/waste and provide for continuous improvements
  • Facilitating root cause analysis and corrective actions of internal quality issues
  • Playing a key role in development and implementation of pilot operations control plans
  • Promoting the use of techniques for continuous improvement such as Lean, Six-Sigma, Poka-Yoke (Error Proofing) and Measurement System Analysis
  • Working collaboratively with Supplier Quality Engineer and Materials Manager to implement incoming and outgoing inspection protocols aligned with the R&D operation function

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of applicable Quality Engineering experience in related field
  • Experience with various Six Sigma data analysis tools
  • Applicable experience with Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001, ISO 13485)
  • Knowledge of various metrology and measurement techniques
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing practices
  • Ability to interpret design documentation (schematics, drawings, etc.).
  • Ability to resolve complex issues in creative, efficient, and effective ways
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • BS/MS in related engineering field

Preferred Experiences:

  • Additive manufacturing
  • 3D printing
  • Knowledge of Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA)
  • Knowledge of TS16949
  • 5S Operations
  • Software - ERP, Trello, Jira, PLM
