Senior Mechanical Engineer
Bevi is a Series B startup bringing customizable, healthy hydration to offices and facilities across the US and Canada. Founded in 2013, our co-founders set out to out-design bottled water. Within five years time, Bevi has saved the waste generated by over 25 million plastic bottles and seen revenue grow by 50x over the past 2 years! With offices now in Boston, New York, and San Francisco, we continue to grow our healthy flavor offerings and constantly strive to bring the next level of customization to the Bevi hydration experience.
We've recently bolstered our team with highly experienced executives from companies like Amazon, Boston Dynamics, and LogMeIn. While our current priorities are to recruit highly specialized engineers and operations stars, in the longer term we aim to become a company where smart, hardworking engineers, sales people, and product designers want to start their careers.
Bevi is searching for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who will develop mathematical models for the systems needed to deliver awesome beverages without the waste of the traditional beverage supply chain. These models will support Bevi’s hardware development from the R&D phase through product launch. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with ambiguity and will enjoy coaxing solutions out of uncertainty, starting from first principles when necessary. The incumbent will be the internal subject matter expert on the physics, chemistry, and fluid/thermodynamics underlying our products. Mechanical engineering background and fluid system design experience is preferred, but absolutely essential is an engineering generalist comfortable with creatively educating himself/herself and the team about varied technical and scientific domains.
Our Senior Mechanical Engineer will:
- Work closely with the product definition team to understand requirements and translate product goals into quantitative design requirements
- Build mathematical models of our products that will guide prototype and test activities
- Perform analysis and execute simulations to evaluate design concepts and understand the root cause of problems
- Develop tradeoff analyses of relevant design spaces to identify constraints and opportunities for design optimization
- Develop and disseminate institutional knowledge about the underlying first principles that affect our designs.
We think you will bring:
- In-depth knowledge of the fundamentals of fluid and thermodynamic system design, as well as a solid foundation of physics and/or chemistry first principles
- Expertise using analytical and modeling tools such as Matlab, Mathcad, Excel, FEA, CFD, etc.
- The ability to clearly communicate technical details to both engineering and non-technical team members
- An innate curiosity and enthusiasm for learning and exploring
- An appreciation for practical limitations and engineering constraints, along with a creative approach to design around these constraints.
