We’re an international agtech startup pioneering an ambitious mission in a budding industry where agriculture meets technology. Through the use of data-driven insights, natural microbiology, and innovative digital technologies, Indigo is partnering across the supply chain, ultimately cultivating a scalable climate solution and enhanced ecosystem that beneficially serves farmers, consumers, and the planet alike.

Our mission is unique, and therefore our teams are too: from multigenerational farming experts who understand the land as though it were an extension of themselves, to cutting-edge technologists and scientists on the frontier of innovation, our teams are a reflection of the range of the stakeholders we serve: the Earth, the Farmer, and the Consumer. We are building Indigo on a bedrock of diversity.  We celebrate individuality and believe in bringing our genuine self to work every day. We deeply value collaboration informed by kindness and personal accountability.

Indigo is a high growth innovative agriculture company based in Boston.  We have an extraordinary opportunity to help farmers harness nature to feed the planet in a sustainable manner. The Carbon business at Indigo is at the forefront of the agricultural carbon market and building the first scalable, rigorous carbon credit opportunity for farmers — benefiting both to our planet and to the rural communities that feed us.

How do we work?

We are not perfect. In fact, we are learning from trial and error every day.  We try new things, take risks, make educated guesses, and move quickly. We learn from our users directly and make data-driven decisions. We aren’t dogmatic, but we believe in the tenets of agile development.  Excellent communication and collaboration skills are a must.

Today, our Carbon by Indigo platform supports farmers in 27 states across the US to enroll in Carbon, change their farming practice, enter data required to generate carbon credits, and get paid for the credits they earn. In this role as Director of Expansion, Carbon Product, you will own the end-to-end user journey for our carbon product for entering new geographies (outside of the US), and new crops, farming practices, & offers that fundamentally alter our current user journey in the US. You will collaborate closely with our Carbon Offering team to build and prioritize our expansion roadmap and then work closely with our other product leads to execute against that roadmap. This role will have significant influence over the overall Carbon Technology roadmap. Initially, you will be an individual contributor, directing the work of other quads. Over time you will be expected to manage your own squad and build a team of Product Managers. You will be expected to unwaveringly focus on our customers--current and future, in the US and internationally--to understand their needs and help us build our business to meet those needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Define the vision and Carbon product expansion roadmap for geographic (ex-US), and new crops, farming practices, & offers that fundamentally alter our current user journey in the US
  • Manage the implementation of expansion across carbon product to ensure existing functionality is enabled for new geographies (ex-US), crops, and offers
  • Collaborate with our International team to assess new markets, often via partnerships and integrations. Lead technical discussions with international go-to-market partners
  • Internationalize our platform by defining the product requirements unique to new geographies that meet the requirement of our carbon methodology and quantification engine
  • Deeply understand our current program & platform and collaborate with the design team to build new and updated user journeys based on our expansion roadmap
  • Participate in agile software product management and development best practices; champion those best practices across the organization
  • Ensure the voice of the customer is a key component in prioritizing your work
  • Understand market competition and product positioning within the agriculture ecosystem
  • Collaborate to identify complex business and user problems, articulate hypotheses, and develop roadmaps and implementation plans accordingly
  • Define a set of metrics by which your area of ownership defines success and is held accountable
  • Establish clear and concise communications channels with stakeholders within the organization (i.e., Offering, International, Operations, Science, Data Science, Design, and Engineering) to provide context about the “why” and visibility into product decisions and process for decision making
  • Balance business and customer needs to make committed decisions; use data and feedback to learn from those decisions
  • Understand and embody our mission & core values
    • Excited by Indigo’s mission; believes that Indigo can fundamentally change the agriculture industry
    • Optimistic and solution-oriented; shows no signs of cynicism
    • Will be widely viewed as someone who personifies our core values, is committed to them, and leans on them when making decisions

Preferred Qualifications:

    • 8+ years Product Management experience and 3+ leading and building high performance teams operating in an agile/lean development environment
    • Track record of building successful products that solve complex problems and a passion for real-world impact.
    • Understanding of how to build and develop customer ecosystem around the platform for the wide set of use cases
    • Experience with technical partnerships, integrations, and APIs
    • Can see the future and break it down into clear, achievable steps
    • Able to quickly earn the respect of everyone at Indigo (from associates to executives) and be seen as a leader
    • Highly collaborative and empathetic to your colleagues and customers
    • Thrives in fast paced environments
    • Embraces a learning culture and motivate continuous improvement with teammates
    • Process orientation with strong time-management skills and demonstrated ability to change course as needed
    • Willing to do necessary tasks, even menial ones, with joy
  • Prefer to have: Agriculture experience, experience internationalizing software
