As the Technical Lead of the Onboarding team, you will work with product managers, designers, and a strong team of mobile and backend engineers to deliver a striking first impression of the WHOOP product. The first time a new WHOOP member puts on their strap and launches the mobile app, they should be treated to an experience that exceeds their already high expectations for what our product is capable of. The stakes are high - if we don’t get it exactly right, new members can go from excitement to frustration in a matter of moments.

This will require rapidly iterating on new ideas, experimenting with various ways of solving the same problem, constructing high quality user experiences, and building highly-available and performant backend APIs and systems. Technical Leads at WHOOP are “player-coaches”, and we are looking for someone who is as passionate about crafting high quality code as they are about helping other engineers level-up.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work and mentor a cross-functional team that works closely with other Engineering, Product, and Design teams at WHOOP
• Develop tooling on top of cutting edge technologies in the pursuit of facilitating a seamless WHOOP new-member experience
• Create and own systems that aid in analyzing success of our onboarding process
• Contribute to backend development using the following technologies: Java, Kafka, AWS and Postgres
• Facilitate effective communication with immediate and external team members

QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience leading a team of like-minded high-performing mobile and backend engineers
• Experience with backend development (preferably object oriented) in APIs and background workers
• Experience with utilizing relational databases
• Experience working with cloud providers such as AWS
• Experience mentoring engineers in best practices in software development
• Experience writing tests and documenting code for a variety of audiences
• An innate passion for approaching large scale problems through small, data informed, and experiment driven iterations
• Willingness to be both a team player and an owner

This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.
