Position Summary:This position will report to the Director of Procurement and will be responsible for tech sourcing. This role is responsible for providing direct support to the cross-functional Vendor Management Program with appropriate strategies, capabilities, objectives, frameworks, facilitation and processes to ensure the program is adopted and institutionalized across all commodities. The Senior Manager Procurement is also responsible for leading, influencing and collaborating with key business leaders to ensure deliverables and frameworks achieve the mutually desired outcomes for athenahealth and the Vendor.
This senior manager will be responsible for developing and executing supply chain strategies to meet the Company’s business growth and procurement requirements. The individual is responsible for RFP development, negotiation, selection and execution of contracts that cover a wide variety of commodities and services. This individual will develop new policies and practices, where required, to ensure the Procurement function operates efficiently, provides high customer satisfaction, and attains optimal performance.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
70% Act as a Member of the Vendor Management Program

  • Establish and maintain strategic supplier partnerships and alliances that promote increased value generation, greater efficiency in the procurement process, and facilitate constructive communications.
  • Develop a performance measurement and management program for key suppliers. Program to include; identification of goals and expectations, measurement tools (i.e., Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), score cards, dashboards, etc.), quarterly performance/ business reviews, corrective action/resolution planning, key contacts and an escalation process.
  • Lead the vendor governance process for identified strategic vendors
  • Interface with appropriate vendor executives to fairly represent the Company’s management concerns and interests
  • Develop vendor scorecards and conduct quarterly business reviews
  • Negotiate supplier agreements, build financial models, manage and evaluate supplier performance
  • Qualify bidder lists, develop evaluation criteria, issue formal bid documents, coordinate, analyze, recommend, award and implement RFPs for large complex projects
  • Provide subject matter expertise that can be leveraged to the Company’s benefit to ensure exceptional delivery of contracted services


30% Recommend and implement procurement plans and strategies for athenahealth

  • Ensure continuous improvement in process delivery, issue escalation and resolution


Education, Experience, & Skills Required:

  • Experience in all areas of project management including multiple project integration, scope, time, cost, quality, staffing, communications, risk, and procurement
  • Bachelors’ degree in related field
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in Technology Procurement and Vendor Management Broad knowledge of the entire Procure-to-Pay process desirable (i.e. invoice and payment process).

  • Ability to improve the quality and performance levels of the supply base to achieve the lowest total cost to the Company.
