About the role:

This full-time role is designed for an experienced, self-starter veterinarian with small animal clinical experience looking for the opportunity to join a fast-growing company that is making an impact on dogs’ lives. This person will interface directly with veterinarians and their pet owners, and will both build relationships with these veterinarians and help counsel them on the clinical applicability of genetic results. 

What you’ll do:

  • Consult, via phone or email, directly with veterinarians or their support staff regarding genetic health risks that their patients have inherited + translate results into clinical care plans;
  • Discuss with veterinarians the benefits of genetic screening, and the ability for genetic results to inform diagnostic plans for dogs;
  • Develop relationships with veterinarians who use Embark’s product to enable them to evangelize the product in their practice and field;
  • Obtain and maintain proficiency with the evolving uses of applied genetics in veterinary medicine by self-study, internal trainings, and external scientific meetings
  • Partner with Product, Veterinary, Scientific Research, and Customer Support to provide insights into pain points of veterinary customers to inform experience improvements;
  • Inform case studies and white papers that demonstrate the clinical applicability of genetics, in partnership with other Veterinary Geneticists, Product Managers, and Marketers;

This role will report to the Senior Veterinary Geneticist. Location in Boston, MA is preferred, but not required. Anticipated travel

What experience we’re looking for:

  • DVM/VMD or equivalent veterinary degree from an accredited veterinary college required; other advanced veterinary certifications a plus
  • 5+ years of experience in veterinary hospitals or academia seeing patients and directly communicating with clients 
  • Active veterinary licensure in at least one state
  • The desire to participate in an elevated amount of continuing education to keep on top of this rapidly evolving field
  • The ability to critically read peer-reviewed literature and other review articles and synthesize them into evidence-based practice recommendations
  • Experience with Google-based applications such as Sheets, Docs, Drive
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong ability to present data in a variety of team settings
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Passion for dogs and curiosity for advancing science 
  • A strong desire to learn and define an emerging channel in a rapidly growing and dynamic startup environment
