All candidates should be local to Boston, MA and available to commute into the Tripadvisor/SmarterTravel Media office located at 226 Causeway St 5x/week.


The ideal Content Specialist: SEO & Social Media has between 3-5 years of SEO and Social Media experience* under their belt and are ready to make the move to the next level in their career and expand their marketing channel portfolio. Candidates should be ready to mentor and be mentored, as well as take ownership of success and be influencers for innovation for the future of our content and product offerings. Content Specialists will play an important role in the strategy and implementation of both search engine optimization tactics and social media execution, working with a large team of expert editors and copywriters. People who succeed at SmarterTravel Media are collaborative, self-motivated, and resourceful, and the ideal candidate will enjoy communicating with many internal teams including Editorial, Product, Marketing, Engineering, and Data Services.


*SEO experience is required, while Social Media experience is a plus. Seeking candidates passionate about expanding their SEO role to include Social Media strategy, reporting, and in some cases, execution.


Essential Job Functions include:

  • Helping to monitor and analyze SmarterTravel Network’s site(s) SEO performance and provide recommendations for increasing search engine ranking, increasing CTR from Organic SERPs, and expanding content through research and competitive analysis.
    • Keyword Research/Topic Research
    • Competitive Analysis
    • Content Expansion, keyword insertion/deletion, meta data optimization, landing page optimization, conversion rate optimization
  • Collaborating with other marketing channels like Email and Subscriber Acquisition to provide integrated content recommendations
  • Researching new content/traffic trends and understanding travel seasonality
  • Creating strategies to help communicate our content through social media networks and tools
  • Helping monitor online communities and presence
  • Making initial responses to social media inquiries, complaints, comments, and other contacts generated through social media and coordinates escalations or further communications
  • Managing time effectively, both holistically and at task level
  • Contributing to overall marketing/product brainstorms


Requirements/Skills: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Demonstrable knowledge of most recent SEO best practices while being energized to stay at the forefront of a field that is always changing
  • Experience using search and website analytics tools
    • Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, Omniture, ScreamingFrog, YouTube Creator Studio, SEMrush, Iconosquare and Buffer experience are a plus!
  • Ability to recognize personal limits and find resourceful ways to self-educate and understand those limits
  • Ongoing motivation to learn and improve yourself and your approach to SEO/Social Media, even if it’s off the clock
  • Strong excel skills including Vlookup and Pivot Tables
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
