About the position
BookBub is looking for an experienced marketing leader to develop and lead a team that will drive significant increases in consumer activation and long-term engagement. The person who fills this newly-created position will become indispensable across the organization, working cross-functionally to delight new members, ensuring they quickly feel the great value BookBub offers and remain engaged members for many years to come. This is a leadership role (VP or Sr. Director level, or equivalent) that will optimize existing touch points and introduce new approaches to reduce churn and ensure the highest possible consumer activation and engagement rates and lifetime value across all relevant channels including digital marketing, social media, email marketing, and site experience.
Here’s a sample of what someone can expect to accomplish in their first year in this position:
- Hire and lead a new marketing team which significantly increases the rate at which members convert from initially joining BookBub to engaging enthusiastically and regularly
- Assist with transitioning the BookBub member value proposition from an ebook deals newsletter to a broader book discovery platform where readers connect with what their friends are reading, follow authors they enjoy, and discover their next favorite book
- Assess important member touch points such as the welcome email, onboarding flow, launch page, and deal pages, and optimize them to ensure that each interaction accomplishes its goals, delights the user, and drives revenue and long-term engagement
- Develop and drive buy-in for team KPIs which monitor activation and engagement rates and tie those data points back directly to work to reduce churn and increase engagement
- Work closely with the Product team to influence roadmaps for consumer activation and engagement
- Generate creative, high-impact ideas that stretch thinking of how BookBub can activate and engage its members and always be testing new approaches and messages
- Drive increased member friend invitations and higher social engagement so that members discover books and authors they love and tell others about BookBub
- Test re-engagement campaigns to decrease member churn rates
Qualifications
Ideal candidates for this position will have:
- Domain expertise:
- 7+ years of relevant marketing experience with expertise in customer activation and retention in early stage or high growth companies, preferably in ecommerce or digital media
- Experience using consumer insights and data to to optimize for consumer activation and engagement
- Experience conducting user research, including qualitative interviews and surveys, that leads to actionable insights
- Familiarity using content to drive commerce
- Experience in developing CRM, segmentation and personalization programs that drive significant growth
- Hands-on experience with social channels, email systems, and A/B testing
- Experience with persona and brand development that drives loyalty and engagement
- Proven leadership skills:
- Experience hiring and leading a team with diverse skillsets
- Team leadership capabilities to inspire, produce results, and ensure accountability
- Experience with building and managing strong relationships across an organization
- The presence and vision to drive thought leadership paired with the ability to execute
- Strong general management skills:
- A passion to move forward quickly, balanced with the patience to manage incrementally towards a larger vision
- Creative problem solving and an analytical, data-driven approach
- A proven ability to innovate and experiment
- Ability to manage multiple, complex priorities and meet deadlines
