In this role, you will be an intern partnered with a Senior Platform Engineer to build our advanced data science and machine learning platform that enables our team to use the latest ML and DS techniques to optimize every aspect of our business. Some examples of the work our data science team is doing are predictive inventory management, product performance forecasting, targeting companies to acquire using advanced ML techniques, keyword optimization, and several other projects which are instrumental to Thrasio's success. You will be a Platform Engineer Intern on the Data Science & Machine Learning team.

SOME OF THE DAY-TO-DAY MAY INCLUDE:

• Enabling success of the Data Science team by designing and building the Data Science & Machine Learning Platform which include Data Science and Machine Learning infrastructure, applications, libraries, model training pipelines and CI/CD pipelines for our algorithmic engines to run at scale
• Learning about best practices around Data Science and Machine Learning platforms, MLOps, and other tools and skills to help you be a successful bridge between Data Science and the rest of engineering
• Optimizing compute resources for data science and machine learning models, services and pipelines such as runtime and memory usage
• Implement and improve logging, monitoring and alerting to improve data quality and management
• Interfacing with data scientists, data engineers, software engineers, and cloud engineers to build services, libraries, and infrastructure
• Requesting cross functional feedback by writing technical documents to communicate design and architecture decisions, implementation strategies, risks and timelines
• Being proactive and taking strategic initiative by being a team player
• Understanding and optimizing the Data Science life-cycle from conception to prototyping, testing, deploying, and aligning projects to overall business value

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE PARTY

• Working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Computer Science or technical equivalent and some internship experience in engineering or data science type roles
• Proficient in Python and SQL
• Some familiarity with CI/CD, observability, automated testing, monitoring and alerting
• Some understanding of Data Science and Machine Learning techniques 
• Familiar with Linux operating system and Unix
• Energized to collaborate across the team with good communication skills
• Eagerness to grow as an individual and receive/incorporate feedback
• Be really excited with the idea of building something new, for a business tackling e-commerce in an entirely different way
• Internship experience in Machine Learning with supervised/unsupervised learning, recommendation systems, reinforcement learning, deep learning, or time series

NICE TO HAVE BUT NOT REQUIRED

• Working towards a Masters’ Degree in Engineering and/or Computer Science
• Engineering internship experience for a company specializing in e-commerce or finance & acquisitions
• Familiarity with Amazon AWS, Databricks, Snowflake, Plotly, Docker and Kubernetes
