Agronomy FOS Intern, April 15 - June 30, 2020

The role of the Agronomy Field Operation Specialist (FOS) Intern is to work with the Field Operations team to delight Indigo growers with world-class data collection and soil sampling. Indigo FOS interns will work with the FOS team to assist forward-thinking growers who have enrolled in Indigo Carbon provide services including but not limited to: agronomic data collection, grain quality testing, and soil sampling. Indigo FOS interns will work with Field Operations Specialists to learn knowledge of soil sampling, agronomy, farm economics, and row crop production, delivering exceptional customer service and building a long-lasting partnership with growers. These efforts will enable grower success by maximizing farm profitability, productivity, and sustainability.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Interns will collect and submit consistent field data using proprietary software
  • Interns will collect and submit soil samples for analysis
  • Interns will collect detailed, on-farm data utilizing precision ag technology and software
  • Interns will learn different types regenerative ag practices and collect relevant information on them, including tillage, cover crops, interseeding, plant diversity, and livestock integration to enable increased grower profitability

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collect and submit soil samples for analysis
  • Collect and submit consistent Carbon field data to the Indigo Carbon & Field Data teams
  • Collaborate with Field Data Specialists to identify data inconsistencies and gaps
  • Conduct grain quality tests with GrainSense devices
  • Communicate with growers about Indigo Carbon program, soil sampling, and data collection
  • Learn process to create a strong feedback loop between the information collected and the Field Data Specialist
  • Collect detailed, on-farm data utilizing precision ag technology and leverage for improved farm productivity, profitability, and sustainability

COMPETENCIES

  • Willingness and desire to work outside and soil sample in all conditions
  • Willing to undergo drug test
  • Can work remotely, with minimal supervision
  • Comprehensive understanding or desire to learn agronomy and row crop production practices
  • Loves continual learning, adaptable, and agile in approach - able to work in the Indigo system
  • Able to utilize new technologies and tools to collect and submit consistent data
  • Detailed oriented
  • Data oriented
  • Excellent communication skills, written, and verbal
  • Highly responsible and driven to succeed
  • Flexibility and availability to travel 75%-80%
  • Competent using Excel/Google spreadsheets

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Agriculture experience preferred
  • Ability to travel seasonally,80% during peak soil and grain sampling collection
  • Pursuing a degree in agriculture
  • Able to drive UTV
  • Owns truck with ability to haul trailer

Location

On the edge of Charlestown, we are within walking distance to restaurants and bars. The Sullivan Square T and bus stop is also right next door! We are currently working remote/hybrid with the exception of our fantastic Biotrinsic team who work from the office and lab space here.
