Sr Sales & Use Tax Analyst
Our Opportunity:
The Senior Sales Tax Analyst will be reporting directly to the Indirect Tax Manager and will be primarily responsible for review of compliance, managing sales tax audits, research and various other projects at our Boston, MA location. The goal of this position is to ensure that all tax functions are completed in a timely manner and in accordance with established policies and procedures, as well as keeping the Indirect Tax Manager informed of activities and any significant challenges or issues.
What You’ll Do:
- Reviewing, analyzing, and reconciling the sales/use tax return filings and supporting workpapers. This includes supervision of the production of information used to effectively & efficiently generate tax returns, as well as maintaining supporting work papers and files while providing a clear audit trail to source/support documentation
- Reviewing reconciliations on tax general ledger accounts to verify account balances
- Performing product taxability research and ensuring necessary changes are made to Vertex sales tax software as a result of such research
- Supervising the resolution of notices and assessments with taxing authorities and negotiating minimum payouts including supervising the preparation of responses, protests, and appeals
- Effectively communicate sales and use tax laws to both internal and external customers through research and interpretation of state regulations. This includes providing supporting documentation to internal/external customers
- Assisting in analysis of proposed transactions for the purpose of identifying sales tax consequences
- Assisting in analyzing new sales tax laws, regulations, reporting requirements, and court cases, and implementing those that impact the tax compliance
- Reviewing sales and use tax journal entries as required
- Ensuring maintenance of sales tax software
- Performing other tasks, duties and special projects as needed
- Recommending process improvements
- Managing sales tax audits
- Supervision of tax compliance calendar
What You’ll Need:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in sales tax, multi-state
- Knowledge of tax related laws and regulations
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or equivalent experience
- Extensive knowledge with sales tax compliance
- Extensive experience with managing sales tax audits
- Strong research, accounting ledger, and reconciliation skills
- Superior organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
- Extensive knowledge and use of Microsoft Excel
- Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills
- Detail oriented, strong time management and organizational/record-keeping skills
- Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in performing all essential duties
- Ability to multi-task and use independent judgment
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Knowledge of the Vertex sales tax software is a plus
- Knowledge of Oracle ERP Cloud is a plus
- Position may require travel
