Job Summary

 

We are excited to be expanding our Tax and Tax Planning organization here at Nuance and are looking for a thought leader to join our team as the Sr. Director - Global Tax Planning.  This individual will work out of our Burlington, MA HQ facility (once we return to our offices from the pandemic) for our SVP-Tax.  They will be instrumental in standing up our global Tax Planning and policy function and will manage a small team but be responsible for numerous Tax planning functions and strategic initiatives.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify, prioritize and implement global (US federal, state and international) tax planning strategy and initiatives​
  • Manage stakeholder relationships and provide tax advice for business strategy, investment decisions and treasury initiatives across the enterprise; lead global tax and economic incentive negotiations​
  • Lead tax support for all strategic transactions – mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, market entry and exit​
  • Ensure quality of departmental work product and provide technical review of significant tax positions reflected in global financial statements and tax filings​
  • Monitor and influence global tax regulatory, legislative, and policy relevant to the company​
  • ​Draft, review, and oversee internal and external advice, memoranda, opinions, transfer pricing strategy, governmental submissions and ruling requests ​
  • Manage global tax controversies and tax audit matters based on materiality thresholds​
  • Schedule, train, mentor US tax personnel​
  • Assemble and lead project teams​
  • Build relationships with executives and business partners ​ - Networking with peers​ 
  • Manage and coordinate with outside advisors​
  • Attraction & retention of key personnel​ including succession planning​

 

Education

  • BS degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
  • Masters or LLM

 

Required Experience:

  • A mixture of relevant big 4 accounting OR law firm experience and practical in-house corporate tax department experience
  • A thought leader in global tax expertise and deep experience with creation and editing of related global tax documentation
  • 15 years’ experience leading successful project teams, which include both internal and external resources and the training & development of personnel
  • Proven track record and accomplishments with respect to leadership, communication and collaboration

 

Technical/Tax Knowledge: 

  • Deep technical understanding of US federal, state, and international tax, with particular emphasis on corporations, partnerships, financial markets, cross-border and transfer pricing, compensation and benefits, and M&A
