The Role:

Thrasio is seeking an exceptional Payroll Manager to manage all aspects of Payroll as we rapidly grow and scale across existing and new geographies. The Payroll Manager will be a key partner in developing and implementing strategies to scale payroll operations, systems, and controls, both domestically and internationally. This role will work in close partnership with People Ops, ensuring a consistent and integrated approach with respect to Finance and HR processes and solutions. Additionally, the Payroll Manager has responsibility over ensuring policies and procedures are being followed in compliance with company and legislative requirements.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and drive the strategic vision for the Payroll function, including scaling and optimizing payroll administration, processes, and systems globally to support a high growth company
  • Facilitate the accurate and timely processing of bi-monthly payroll in Workday for 1000+ US employees
  • Transmit US payroll data for bi-monthly payroll to outsource payroll service provider (OSV) 
  • Partner with international Finance Leads on selecting a payroll provider outsource solution
  • Provide oversight and direction to various finance leads with respect to outsourced payroll solutions
  • Review audit reports for unexpected variances prior to approving payroll processing
  • Ensure garnishments are submitted and executed within Workday
  • Ensure data integrity within the HRIS system (payroll data, cost center structure, alignment across internal systems, etc.)
  • Design and implement controls to monitor and audit changes to Workday HRIS information
  • Facilitate year-end tax filings for federal, state, and local jurisdictions through payroll outsource service provider 
  • Document all payroll processes and maintain documentation for business continuity
  • Prepare monthly payroll-related account reconciliations
  • Act as primary Finance contact for payroll providers and benefit vendors; provide proper oversight to all external payroll partners/providers and escalate issues when necessary
  • Partner with various areas of People Ops, including Total Rewards, People Technology, and People Services teams for effective delivery of services
  • Provide the highest level of customer service to employees
  • Manage and resolve payroll-related employee service tickets
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end reporting
  • Work in tandem with both People Ops and Finance leaders to ensure a high level of communication and transparency
  • Drive continuous improvement and efficiencies through best in class enhancements to processes and controls for payroll related activities
  • Collaborate with People Ops on designing/updating and implementing payroll related policies and controls (financial and operational) to ensure data integrity, minimize errors, and reduce risk of fraud
  • Produce ad hoc reporting and analysis that provides insights that enable and inform decision-making
  • Lead next phase of Workday implementation from a payroll perspective in partnership with People Ops

What you bring to the party:

  • BS in Business or related discipline; Accounting degree preferred
  • 8+ years of payroll experience with at least 1 year in a supervisory/leadership role; experience working within broader HR group is a plus
  • Professional (CPP) designation preferred
  • Comprehensive understanding of payroll administration processes and familiarity with enabling HRIS technology; specific Workday experience required
  • Multi-state and multi-country experience required
  • Experience working with outsource payroll providers, both domestically and internationally
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles and internal controls
  • Experience with developing, implementing, and executing effective internal controls
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner and with discretion 
  • Knowledge and general understanding of international payroll requirements, processes, and models
  • Possess agility and ability to thrive in an ambiguous, unstructured, and fast-growing/changing environment executing day-to-day tasks as well as larger projects
  • Strong project management skills with proven ability to manage/lead multiple projects simultaneously
  • Customer service-oriented mentality
  • Proactive approach to developing solutions and creative problem-solving
  • Concise and effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Employs analytical mindset
  • Operate with strong sense of urgency
  • Ability to multi-task, work well under pressure, and meet deadlines

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Excel (pivot tables and lookups)
