Head of Investment Management Solutions

We are seeking a highly motivated, strategic, innovative, executive leader with extensive funds management experience who will be a change champion for our Investment Management Solutions business. The role requires proven leadership and a history of demonstrated achievement applying  superior investment skills and deep experience to drive a culture of product innovation and ideation.  We seek this leader to implement best practices and significantly enhance the competitive positioning of our growing investment franchise in a highly competitive and entrenched universe of Fund managers.  The leadership position is expected to drive a culture of investment agility and change demonstrating a strong strategic and commercial mind set as we set forth to promote and brand MassMutual's unique value prop as a differentiated investment leader in the market.

 

With a fund complex under management of over $50B, a large organization to oversee and many key stakeholders across the enterprise, this leader needs to be able to effectively influence and collaborate to ensure we are remaining competitive and executing on a strategic vision that positions MassMutual for scale in AUM, success and profitability. It's also important for this leader to demonstrate competence quickly leveraging their well developed interpersonal and relationship management skills in establishing effective connections with key stakeholders – internal functions, distribution and client relationships with a commitment to challenging existing practices, establishing lean practices, enhancing the investment engine and helping grow the overall investment franchise.  The position will report to and work closely with the MMUS Head of Product.

 

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee all aspects of the Investment Management Solutions unit including Investment Product, Innovation, Client Service, Portfolio Risk Management, Operations and Treasury
  • Develop and drive Product's business plan and strategy with a focus on investment fund innovation and adherence to our First Principles of asset management to provide best in class multi-managed investment solutions that provide consistent all-weather performance relative to peers
  • Maximize long term profit consistent with MassMutual strategic objectives, which requires balancing/ influencing that may at times complete with other business needs or considerations, both short and long term, of a wide variety of constituencies ranging from internal channels, external clients, producers and vendors to other internal areas (Legal /Compliance, Finance, Service, Technology, etc…)
  • Monitor ongoing trends i.e. competition, distribution, demographic, technology, etc… and check/ adjust strategy, as needed continuously pushing for adopting asset management best practices
  • Challenge and enhance current processes, infrastructure and oversight functions and initiate change and alternatives as necessary
  • Demonstrate leadership and personally model thought leadership with regards to a culture of diversity and inclusion, innovation and ideation, and respectfully challenging status quo
  • Establish a climate which ensure pipeline, succession and all levels of talent are developed and inspired to bring their best selves to work
  • Represent as an investment leader the capabilities of the firm to outside constituents – advisers, consultants, conferences etc.

 

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Deep and thorough understanding of investment products and landscape. Ability to translate this information into innovative strategy recommendations.
  • Expert level knowledge of industry best practices and go-to-market strategies.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to document complex issues, methodologies, and resolutions such that others can readily understand them
  • Proven ability to develop, lead, and manage a diverse team generating diverse thought leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally to reconcile competing priorities while meeting organizational objectives
  • Sound business judgment in an environment of rapid change
  • Comfortable dealing with both complexity and ambiguity, and able to explore multiple solutions to a problem
  • CFA a preferred credential
