Head of Finance – IT, Product, and Customer Service
Our Opportunity:
Chewy is hiring a Head of Finance – IT, Product, and Customer Service to lead Chewy’s finance teams in support of these critical and growing parts of the company. In this role, you will act as a key senior leader driving the growth of Chewy, as we continue to build a world-class IT and Product organization, and scale our award-winning Customer Service function. As Head of Finance – IT, Product, and Customer Service, you will work closely with the CFO, CTO, CPO, and CXO, as well as leaders throughout Chewy. You will be an integral part of the leadership team efficiently scaling a functional finance organization, and will lead the management and oversight of financial strategic vision for the teams charged with building and expanding on our technical advantage in the market through efficient and effective use of capital, as well as growth in our most important asset – team members. You will also partner with the Product and Customer Service leaders, on resource allocation to grow and improve the customer experience through creative and inventive ways in which we interact with and deliver best-in-class customer service to millions of pet parents and their pets. Finally, you will be involved in high-impact decisions and initiatives undertaken by the company, giving you a front row seat to shape Chewy’s growth.
To be successful in the role, you will need a proven track record of being a disruptor, innovator, and forward-looking busines leader. Equally as important, you will need to operate at depth, understanding every detail of the organizations you will work with, as well as being able to “zoom out” to connect the dots across the enterprise. We are seeking an inspiring people leader, a strong cross-functional collaborator, an outstanding communicator, and a nimble, strategic thinker. You will have had experience leading IT or customer interface design and development finance or strategy for a fast growing private or public company in the software, eCommerce, or technology-enabled space. Finally, you have demonstrated flexibility and willingness to roll up your sleeves to lead your team through ever changing priorities and interesting business challenges. A start-up mentality, and ability to quickly build high performing teams is a must.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with the CFO, CTO, CPO, and CXO to develop and execute Chewy’s long-term growth plan and provide modeling/analytical support for strategic growth projects, software / systems development, and customer service improvement initiatives.
- Apply vision, strategy, and thought leadership to impact Chewy, at scale
- Lead, inspire, and develop a growing team of financial professionals focused on enhancing enterprise-wide company growth
- Implement repeatable operating protocols and systems that enhance financial rigor, enable more thinking and less data manipulation, and bring controls yet allow for the nimbleness and investment needed at a fast-growing company
- Lay a strong foundation of revenue planning and category expansion to drive company performance, and lead processes such as long-range revenue planning, annual budgeting, and quarterly forecasts
- Oversee preparation of business reviews that highlight key risks, opportunities, and proposed action steps. Leverage internal capabilities and industry best practices to bring innovation to systems and processes
- Develop management reporting and commentary that provides senior leaders with timely insights into trends, topline and profitability, and growth drivers
- Build and foster strong cross-functional relationships across the commercial pillars of the business. Help the company understand how all the pieces fit together and drive performance. Strengthen the team's partnership and influencing skills and further connect Finance into every part of the organization and decision making
- Partner with cross-functional leaders to build the annual sales plan, reconcile spend (including capital), and develop strategic growth plans for the functions you will support
- Provide frameworks, models, and business cases to guide resource allocation that maximize shareholder value
- Partner with other Finance team members in monthly forecast cycles, working with functional leaders to identify planning assumptions for key business drivers
- Collaborate with various teams (e.g., Business Analytics, Marketing, Corporate and Commercial Finance, and Accounting) to improve data quality and speed to reporting. Ensure performance is accurately reported
- Create ad-hoc materials for C-suite and Board consumption
Requirements:
- Demonstrated success as a progressive Finance leader that applies advanced business acumen to shape the company’s strategies and initiatives
- 10+ years of experience in large scale corporate environments in IT, software development, or functional FP&A finance roles focused on allocation of capital resources and headcount, leading staff, P&L financial responsibility, and development of Strategies and Budgets. Deep understanding of technology development (e-commerce, software development is a plus)
- Track record of thinking globally, strategically, and objectively. Able to effectively translate data into actionable insights, strategies, and financial plans
- Able to work under pressure and to adapt to changing circumstances while applying analytical and technical skills to shape corporate initiatives
- Experience in communicating clearly and effectively (verbally and in writing) to senior leadership audiences internally and externally (board members - a strong plus). Strong presentation skills and ability to communicate complex financial concepts in a simple way and to tailor key messages and presentation style to multiple audiences
- Ability to build collaborative and mutually beneficial relationships with all stakeholders and effectively manage conflict resolution. Success in creating an inclusive culture that builds trust between cross-functional teams to drive the success of the entire company
- Demonstrated success in the leadership of competing projects and requests from all levels of the organization
- Proven record in attracting, developing, and motivating the talent needed for current and future business needs. Demonstration of maintaining high performance expectations and leading teams to achieve results in a fast-paced environment
- MBA from Top 10 business school (preferably in Finance), and BS in Finance, Engineering, or Business and excellent track record in global organization(s)
- Expert at Excel with experience with planning tools
