Head of Capital Management
The Opportunity
As the Head of Capital Management you will work in a fast paced, innovative and collaborative environment enhancing our capital management strategy & monitoring while expanding our capital modeling capabilities for MassMutual.? This role will have the opportunity lead a team that will:
- create and maintain an effective written capital management strategy including target capital and subsidiary dividends
- manage all regulatory and rating agency capital modeling, monitoring and documentation.? The team will have the opportunity to rebuild our actual and forecast modeling and reporting capabilities as it relates to regulatory and rating agency capital leveraging new technology / automation and advanced analytical / modeling techniques
- monitor and serve as the expert on capital frameworks (NAIC, rating agencies, international jurisdictions, etc).? In addition, this role will be the advocate for the company in various industry and regulatory groups, committees or forums
- participate in and drive risk mitigation activities for stress testing results?
This role is an opportunity to have hands-on experience building a capital management function and leading a team transforming our modeling and capital management monitoring activities.?
The Team
The Head of Capital Management is a member of the Liquidity and Capital Strategy organization (direct report of the Treasurer) which is a dynamic team of individuals with diverse backgrounds that are focused on:
- Understanding actual and projected trends of capital levels so that they may develop strategies to improve financial performance and conditions
- Being expert at various capital frameworks and serving as an advocate for the Company in various industry or internal groups
- Minimizing time spent on production and data manipulation activities by transforming our modeling, analytic, and reporting capabilities and implementing automation and technology where possible
The Impact:
- Drives effective capital management across the Company through written capital management strategy, target setting and subsidiary dividends
- Drives transformation of modeling & reporting capabilities to enable real time capital calculations and scenario analysis with direct connections to financial data from our data lake
- Understands how data flows through the financial systems to the accounting function, planning appropriately for changes and prioritizing and implementing enhancements
- Collaborate closely with other Finance teams, MassMutual business units and corporate functions to ensure the accurate and timely recognition of various transactions and events in actual or forecast capital computations
- Proactively identifies risks and opportunities and translates that into decision-useful strategic recommendations
- Serves as expert in various applicable capital frameworks so that the Capital Management team can provide sound financial advice to business units or other departments, anticipating the financial statement impact of changes in the business environment and making recommendations to ensure appropriate processes are implemented and maintained
- Establish and enhance internal controls and maintain and consistently improve upon a strong control environment
- Proactively focuses on self and team development (e.g. research of capital frameworks, product impacts, market developments, MassMutual businesses, value creation metrics, etc)
The Minimum Qualifications
- BS in accounting, finance or actuarial science
- 10+ years of experience in financial data modeling, financial analysis, risk, pricing or accounting
- 5+ years of capital management experience
- Expert knowledge in capital frameworks
- Proven experience participating in management committees or industry / regulatory groups
- Proven experience leading teams in periods of change
- Knowledge and experience in data automation and transformation.? Some tools include Python, SQL, R, etc
- Knowledge and experience of US GAAP and statutory accounting
- Strong multi-tasking skills and ability to adapt to change
- Strong desire to ?roll-up sleeves?
The Ideal Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of US GAAP and Statutory accounting and Capital frameworks (U.S. risk-based capital, rating agency capital frameworks, solvency 2, etc)
- Prior experience building a capital management framework, team and modeling
- Prior experience working in a SIFI
- Prior experience building capital models
- Prior experience of implementing automation techniques
- Prior experience with dashboard technologies (e.g. Tableau, MicroStrategy, PowerBI, etc)
- Ability to proactively take ownership of projects and drive them through to completion
- Experience working in a Finance transformational setting; driving change and managing competing priorities
- Ability to perform independent research and prepare analyses of the impact of new developments / transactions
- Detail-oriented with demonstrated oral and written communication skills
