Financial Reporting Manager

Simply Business is looking to hire a contract Financial Reporting Manager to join the Finance Team. This role will start as a 6-month contract opportunity with possible extensions.
As a Financial Reporting Manager you will:
- Support month end close activities in a variety of capacities including: prepare journal entries and perform associated balance sheet reconciliations, monitor and manage revenue recognition across various revenue streams, prepare and reconcile external carrier and partner financials statements, and prepare financial reporting packages, assisting with variance analysis and investigation
- Continuously improve control framework supporting external reporting
- Partner with digital product and technology teams to improve reporting capabilities, deliver changes in payment processing, build reconciliation tools and other activities as required
- Build revenue and carrier reporting efficiencies to minimize end-user calculations and improve report delivery time and reliability
- Support Financial Controls team in external and internal audits
- Manage a team of 1 based out of Boston
Revenue Recognition Lead Duties:
- Lead team preparing, reviewing and a posting all carrier related revenue entries
- Review and monitor aging of receivables, following-up with appropriate teams to resolve outstanding items as needed
- Monitor carrier premium trust accounts and prepare bank transfers for settlement of remittance to carriers and commission clearing
- Liaise with our Customer Solutions Center on all billing related matters
- Support relationship with payments gateway, performing credit card fee reconciliations and addressing issues with card disputes
- Work with data & analytics team to automate reporting and reconciliations, and to resolve reporting gaps and/or issues
- Review and monitor Financial Reporting Assistant input for completeness and accuracy
Carrier Reporting Lead Duties
- Lead team preparing and distributing periodic (weekly/monthly) bordereau, remittance and ad hoc files which detail all insurance transactions flowing through SB
- Liaise with Carrier Relationship Manager on all reporting matters, acting as primary point of contact for questions on reporting capabilities and issue resolution
- Attend external partner meetings to assist in carrier onboarding and new product releases, driving testing agenda to support as needed
- Support insurance product, technology, and data & analytics to improve carrier reporting processes and procedures
- Finance lead for carrier audits
What we're looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of accounting experience
- CPA or MBA preferred, insurance experience a plus
- Advanced excel skills, including working with datacube plug-ins, look-ups, and pivot tables
- Strong communication skills to varying levels of stakeholders
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet strict reporting deadlines, working accurately with attention to detail
- Ability to identify control weaknesses and proactivity suggest and implement improvements
- A commitment to continuous improvement and desire to grow in a professional and dynamic environment
- Team player, someone who fits in well with our great culture

What's going on with work from home and return to the office?
More and more, people are talking about going back to the workplace and the new normal. At Simply Business, we’re thinking of it as a Better Normal. That means offering our SBers more choice and greater flexibility to work in a way that’s best for their particular job, their teams, and their lives.
We’re shifting to a hybrid working model, so we’ll have employees working virtually and in the office at any given time.
We’re also aware there are times when working together in person is the best way to get things done. We expect our SBers to connect in their hubs (that’s what we call our offices) most likely once every few weeks. That said, there’s no one-size-fits-all solution, so we expect all SBers and their teams will find the operating rhythm that works best for them.
