Job Description:

The VP of Software Development for the Pluralsight Flow product will have direct responsibility for the delivery of the product line, the infrastructure that enables the delivery of that product set, and in-application support for customers with internal processes and procedures to ensure that our customers are delighted. Reporting directly to the CTO, you will have visibility into business strategy and will be relied upon to prioritize technical engineering objectives and workstreams to meet those business needs. You will work closely with all parts of our engineering organization, driving priorities, empowering the directors of engineering with the tools, budget, and communications necessary for them to deliver high impact. We’re looking for someone with experience building a SaaS product, designing and communicating internal engineering processes, and leading leaders to fulfill their potential while keeping a collaborative and service-minded direction with their teams.

Who you are:

  • A leader that understands how to operate a mission critical service for enterprise customers

  • A compassionate and talented engineer

  • Someone with an eye for seeing where and when technical decisions improve our product roadmaps

  • A leader with emotional intelligence and maturity to work with a set of highly capable and empowered direct reports while also genuinely interested in and engaged with the broader engineering team at all levels. You bring out the best in your team.

  • A thoughtful and artful communicator within your engineering teams and across the broader organization.

  • Able to organize complex deliverables into actionable projects

  • Someone with enormous drive to build the best product

What you’ll own:

This role will lead a 50+ person team of software engineers and engineering managers working on our Flow product.  Responsibilities include:

  • Product Delivery: The delivery schedule for your product features

  • Product Excellence: The technology and components to delight our users, improve quality, and reduce the cost of support and maintenance of your product

  • A Reliable Experience: ensure your product meets or exceeds the contracted SLA uptime

  • Growth of Team: The responsibility for the opportunities, growth, and personal development of hundreds of engineers

  • Organizational relationship: A direct and deep relationship with product managers, sales, and account managers

  • Product Strategy: inform the product strategy by bringing technical perspective to the conversation

  • Product Champion: strategically leveraging Pluralsight’s own products across your organization

Experience you’ll need:

Your years of experience as a software engineer with large-scale technical projects delivered have prepared you for this role. Technically trained, inquisiitve,  and with excellent communication and management skills, you care about quality engineering, understand business needs, and value empathy. You are ready to work with the CTO, business and product leaders, and cross-functional leaders across the company who will look to you to get things done.

  • Extensive experience with shipping and operating both cloud services and on-prem solutions, with technical depth to be  active in decisions about the large architectural investments

  • Demonstrated ability to focus product development on the top corporate objectives and priorities, and to be accountable for keeping strategic deliverables on track

  • Hands-on software development experience and credibility with the hands-on teams of engineers

  • Experience with software methodologies  and software development tools for project management and issue tracking

  • Diagramming and development of presentations and maps and specifications for developers

  • Experience with content production tools, terms, and related technical and legal concerns

  • Experience with API management, product instrumentation, analytics, continuous development and integration, and security and audit concerns

  • Experience with UX and UI concepts, though we do not expect you to be a designer

  • Demonstrated experience leading and coaching manager direct reports

  • Strong cross-team and cross-department partnership skills for negotiating smart agreements

An Insider's view of Pluralsight

How would you describe the company’s work-life balance?

Oh, it is incredible here. Pluralsight constantly reminds me how important I am to the company both personally and professionally. Pluralsight creates a space where I can work, grow, and connect with similar people in so many different parts of the world while still leaving enough room for me to focus and find joy in my personal life as well.

What's the biggest problem your team is solving?

The goal of a user profile is to provide a sense of identity in a personalized and centralized portfolio. Today, users provide this data in many different ways throughout the platform. Our greatest challenge is to build a unified profile with a centralized view of a user’s data to paint one clear picture of all their interactions in the platform.

What does career growth look like on your team?

We embrace a mindset of continuous improvement and encourage team members to take ownership of their careers. As part of that, we advise leaders and team members to co-create development plans. Whether it be up-skilling, re-skilling, or expanding their influence we believe in investing skills development and facilitating growth experiences.

What makes someone successful on your team?

A successful individual brings their true self to work. Teams do not benefit from a group that contains like minded individuals from similar backgrounds. We learn so much from each other and about ourselves when we have a team with diverse ways of thinking and experiences. It also creates a healthy, challenging environment that befits the company.
