Sr. Manager/Manager of Site Reliability Engineering

Position SummaryAs a Senior Manager of Site Reliability Engineering you will lead a team of Site Reliability Engineers laser focused on availability, scalability, and customer experience. The successful candidate should have demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary teams and have a strong understanding of managing complex systems at scale. Experience operating within an Agile environment and evangelizing and maintaining Infrastructure-as-Code is preferred. Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership

  • Maintain technical knowledge of the product line in terms of architecture, tech stack, dependencies, scale and performance for their area of assignment
  • Develop software-based, automated solutions to core business processes
  • Stay up-to-date on relevant technologies, understanding trends and opportunities to ensure we are using the best possible practices and tools
  • Design and implementing services which support Infrastructure-as-Code principles
  • Leverage Agile principles to meet the fast paced demands of the athenahealth business
  • Employ creativity and critical thinking to design elegant solutions to complex problems
  • Develop, evangelize, teach, and promote best practices and architecture policies
  • Work closely with product and development teams to ensure that the service architecture aligns with high-availability, scalability, and performance goals

Team Leadership

  • Lead a team of Site Reliability Engineers responsible for maintaining a portfolio of applications based on a Microsoft technical stack
  • Evangelize for and drive adoption of the principles of Site Reliability Engineering across the organization
  • Drive tri-annual release planning for teams within span of control; Contribute to the annual strategic planning process.
  • Eliminate barriers to productivity; determine strategies and tactics to help direct reports stay laser focused
  • Share the team vision and strategy to foster an understanding of the overall direction and the "why" behind decisions
  • Set and monitor performance goals & objectives, including providing feedback through performance appraisals and day-to-day discussions
  • Demonstrate relentless and versatile learning, enjoying the challenge of unfamiliar tasks

Skills and Environment

  • 3-6 years of leading teams in a technical environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • Track record of developing employees both technically and professionally
  • Strong background in Windows server administration, including scaling, tuning, and security
  • Previous experience working in an Agile environment preferred
  • Proficiency in programming or scripting languages such as C# or PowerShell
  • Experience in distributed systems and cloud-based architecture
  • Experience hosting, scaling, and performance tuning IIS based web applications with an MS SQL backend
  • Familiarity with Desired State Configuration and other configuration management tools such as Puppet, Chef, or Azure Automation
  • Experience with public cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS
  • Expertise in public/private cloud IT infrastructure
