As the Software Engineering Technical Director on the GeoInnovation Team at Indigo, you collaborate closely with other team leaders, driving a strong understanding of system interactions, reliability, and scalability. As the technical engineering team lead, you will be instrumental in evangelizing modern software engineering practices, mentoring others, and growing the team. This is a high-impact role that will address extremely complex systems that will grow in scope with the team. 

Responsibilities:

  • Design APIs and client libraries that are easy for users to use
  • Mentor more junior team members, shaping their thought processes to find solutions
  • Collaborate with People Team to shape hiring strategy and grow team
  • Scale existing systems, with a strong focus on reliability, security, performance, and cost
  • Evangelize modern software engineering practices, mentoring team on these practices and incorporating into systems approaches
  • Research, propose, and begin implementing (as applicable) new technologies or software patterns to make improvements

Competencies:

  • Understands how to approach super-large, complex systems, given only high-level requirements and use cases
  • Expert-level knowledge on building reliable, scalable systems in a cloud environment
  • Able to discuss advantages and disadvantages of various solutions (ex. microservices vs. monoliths, mon vs. shared repos, etc.)
  • Strong mentoring capability; leads by example
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Proactive and self-directed; drives team focus and strategy
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, growth environment
  • Excellent prioritization skills
  • Understands and embodies our core values and mission

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years experience; proven success delivering software at an enterprise scale
  • Strong track record as a technical lead and mentor
  • Experience cultivating talent and hiring Engineers
  • Proven experience leading from-scratch technology selection process
  • Proven experience in a growth environment
  • Strong experience working in AWS

Location

On the edge of Charlestown, we are within walking distance to restaurants and bars. The Sullivan Square T and bus stop is also right next door! We are currently working remote/hybrid with the exception of our fantastic Biotrinsic team who work from the office and lab space here.
