This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Software/Systems Engineer to lead multi-disciplinary teams of scientists and engineers in developing state-of-the-art sensing and classification systems. Charles River offers a unique, fast-paced environment at the intersection of advanced research and product development. As a senior member of our team, you will play a central role in designing, developing, testing, and maturing new software technologies across a variety of domains, including signal processing, computer vision, surveillance, and robot autonomy. You will work with advanced machine learning algorithms, and apply these to novel sensors, autonomous systems (UUVs, UASs, UGSs), and mobile devices to produce new capabilities and products for land, sea, air, and space applications.

The candidate will have a software craftsmanship mindset, and creatively contribute to all phases of the software development lifecycle, from proposal/concept generation, requirements analysis and engineering design, through field experimentation, acceptance testing, and orchestration of live demonstrations.

Requirements:

  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or a related field
  • 7+ years of software development experience
  • Proficiency in C++
  • Practical experience with signal processing, classification algorithms, and software design
  • Working knowledge of software engineering tools (e.g., Git, Visual Studio, JIRA
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams
  • Passion for evangelizing the unique benefits of specific R&D concepts that you develop
  • Strong verbal and written skills to support customer interaction and system documentation
  • Ability to travel for occasional integration and test events
  • U.S. Citizenship

Strong Pluses:

  • Experience with rapid prototyping tools and languages (e.g., MATLAB)
  • Exposure to Scrum or other Agile software development processes
  • Experience developing software for real-time applications on single board computers
  • Practical experience with optical laser systems
  • Experience supporting new business development and proposal efforts
  • M.S. or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
