Senior Software Engineer - Learner Team

EdX is an open-source learning destination with a mission to provide high quality education for everyone, everywhere. Founded by Harvard and the MIT, edX is focused on transforming online and on-campus learning through groundbreaking methodologies and cutting-edge research on an open-source platform.

Our awesome team - focused on solving Learner’s needs - is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join us here in Cambridge. This will be a major focus for edX this year and we're looking for an eager engineer to help implement/invent new products.

We’re looking to hire an engineer that is eager to work on the full stack!

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the Learner engineering team by leveraging your skills in technical direction, priority setting, and execution/delivery.
  • Design, develop, deploy, and support scalable software systems.
  • Understand and leverage key aspects of building operationally viable solutions.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 5-7 years of professional experience required
  • Experience with Python or other dynamic development languages. (We use Python, but we can ramp you up if you’re new to it. We're confident you'll love the stack after we train you up!)
  • Exposure to multiple technologies, including but not limited to HTML, CSS, Javascript, Django, MySQL
  • Values teamwork, collaboration and an evolving start-up atmosphere
  • Strong leadership and mentorship skills
  • Experience running with projects and collaborating cross functionally 

Preferred:

  • BS in Computer Science or related experience
  • Experience with React, Backbone, and RequireJS.
  • Extra points if you share an active Github profile or a school project you’re proud of.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment.
  • Committed to documentation best practices - your code will be consumed in an open source environment!
  • Familiarity with standards compliant front-end development and accessibility best practices.
