Do you love Python? Would you like to make the world a better place? edX is seeking a senior to principal level software engineer for the edX Platform team. The Platform team at edX tackles the hard problems that arise from operating a successful, complex, consumer-facing web application. The team takes on projects to make other engineers more effective. Recent projects have included enhancing the continuous delivery pipeline, designing and implementing plug-in architectures, and creating common libraries and patterns to make creating and delivering new services faster.

The ideal candidate will have strong Python and Python tooling (pip, pip-tools, tox, travis) skills, the ability to dive in to a deep code base and be able to work independently and with the team to drive their solutions over the finish line.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, deploy, and support scalable software systems.
  • Understand and leverage key aspects of building operationally viable solutions.
  • Mentor junior engineers as they continue to develop their skill sets.
  • Support the open source community.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Real-world experience with Python
  • Strong back end programming skills: Python, Django, Mysql
  • Demonstrated skills in building service oriented architectures
  • Experience working in an agile development environment
  • Committed to documentation best practices so your code can be consumed in an open source environment

Preferred:

  • Able to code front to back, including HTML, CSS, Javascript, Django, MySQL.
  • Python tooling experience
  • Contributor to or consumer of Open Source Frameworks.
  • BS in Computer Science or related field of study.
